I don't quite get the logic of working nude and not applying HE, Is the idea that if a HE occurs then the masseur has broken the law? I sometimes feel the same way about advertising that features a guy's beautiful body all muscles and flesh, but is strictly therapeutic. What am I missing?

Many Russian masseurs are hot/athletic, straight, and pretty smart dudes who like the money they can make this way. Being smart and strong allows them to become very good masseurs pretty quickly. Being hot is a great hook in the lucrative m4m market, especially if one is comfortable being naked, which most (not all!) of these guys are. Many will even allow the client to touch them but a big no-no is them touching a dude in certain areas, I guess this crosses their line. Some will even invite the client to "finish himself" in the end, which I find demeaning and offensive, but to them this is the definition of the "sensual" massage, as more would turn it into "erotic" I guess.
 
I actually don't want a HE from a dude who doesn't really want to do it or if it turns out I am not into him. That's why I never negotiate anything sensual upfront, I prefer to leave that to the chemistry and whatever happens - happens. But the massage itself is really important to me, and what typically frustrates me about these guys is their reluctance to deal with my glutes and hip flexors, which are really important to me. I guess they are too nervous about going there, because it might send a "wrong message" about what to expect later. Over time, I have learned to expect this and hence avoid Russians and Eastern Europeans who charge $100 an hour.
 
At $150-$160, which typically takes me to over $200 for 90 minutes, you get three kinds. One is very playful and sensual but lack in massage skills. The second are truly competent masseurs who actually like and appreciate the male body and are open to some play in the end. And the third are just frauds, which is one of the reasons this forum is so valuable!

Please make some recommendations!

Don't assume everything in NYC is UPMARKET just because the rent is high. There is also a LOT of competition. $250 is the going rate for most services from most worthy providers. The numbers beyond are all hype and sensation...an orgasm is an orgasm. $ 150 more doesn't make it last any longer or make it any better.

I'm most curious about Ryan. A few years ago I used to see a masseur named Ryan. He was very very discreet, only could contact him by email as I recall, but was nice, gave a pretty good massage, and supplied a HE. I was kind of a regular for a while but then with work etc I kind of lost touch with him. I believe at the time I had found him through infrequent ads on CL. Over time he passed out of my awareness. Then one day I was looking at CL and there was an ad for a masseur with no name attached, but two of the pictures I recognized from Ryan's old ads. I responded to his ad asking if he was the same person I had seen years ago giving just enough info so that he knew who I was. He never responded. However, when I learned that you could google pictures I found that some of the other pictures in the ad were of models etc. So then I doubted that the person advertising was the Ryan I knew. Now these same pictures are appearing in his rentmen ad. The picture with the t shirt and the one of him standing under the trees were the ones he used on CL when I met him. But a couple of the other pics appeared in the newer posting which I googled and found not to be him. Overall a bit confusing. I tried googling his pics on the rentmen sight, but right-clicking doesn't bring up google option...so I don't know how to vet the pics this masseur is using.

As I and others have noted here, his massage is purely therapeutic and he remains clothed throughout. I have no issues with that if the masseur is honest about it, but for him to imply otherwise is misleading. The massage itself is OK but not good enough as a therapeutic massage to make me return.
