  1. "Hamilton" is a far more complicated musical than "Funny Girl." Some people still remembered Fanny Brice when the musical opened. Love her or hate her, the show had Barbra Streisand. And the songs were memorable on the own before the cast album.
  2. Yes, there are many possible ways for @Avalon, since we know he has a computer. He might start with several other doctors taking a look at his health, especially his knees. I foeget sometimes how how far we have advance medically since my parents and grandparents.
  3. @Avalon I realize the changes are perhaps too much. Please remember though when you absolutely need them.
  4. @Avalon, I believe you have a birthday soon. Most barbers would be willing to come to your apt for haircut on that day, or soon after. I wait too long between haircuts too. A comment today from Dick Cavett in the New York Times: Watching my old shows, the odd sensation about it is, there I am sitting with Lucille Ball or someone like that, and it is overlain by the thought, "One of us is dead." "So far it's always the other one."
  5. Not sucessful escorts. It requires a combination of skills that not everyone has (or may want).
  6. My guess is you have received too much advice on how you could improve your situation, so I will not do it too. Very best to you as a valuable and nice person.
  7. Come on. By this time, even if there was a remove chance @Avalon could physically leave his apt., he may be afraid to try. Totally understable.
  8. To be fair, his not being able to leave his apartment for months may explain why Avelon post so often. Best wishes for a medical recovery,@Avalon.
  9. below, there not their He does not realize their is a community of sorts here, and occasional giving in once in a while might help in a far more important disagreement. If he is not well physically, perhaps more people should know.
  10. I visited the Nobel Museum in Sweden, Mann's 1929 citation mentions his shorter stories more than his novels. He was one of leading German exile from National Socialist Germany. Hitler set his books on fire.
  11. Mann's novella 'Death in Venice' has a gay story line. The novella became a successful movie, later an opera and later a full- length German ballet.
  12. Not sure, probably the New York Times. The article was about Putin's liking Chris Wallace upcoming (then) visit to Petersburg.
  13. But not apparently Joyce, Proust, Kafka and Mann. I believe only Thomas Mann received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
  14. Too bad William Buckley is gone. He would chosen the Baltic to get rid of Leningrad and Stockholm. Putin still calls St. Petersburg by its Soviet name.
  15. I moved recently, and paid two credit card bills by check And I will continue to pay by check. I like the due dated nearby on paper.
  16. When I was posting photos in the Gallery here (before July 2, 2018) too many to list. Now I am looking forward to seeing "The Boys in the Band" in New York next week. I hated the film version, but am intetested in seeing it on Broadway.
  17. All that supposed treaure would be nothing but salt and bones. The real finds more likely in lakes in places like Norway and espially Sweden.
  18. Yes. And all that water from the Mediterranean has to go some place. Salt water. Africia would not survive. Neither would Italy and Monaco.
  19. Who knows? @Avalon also mentioned draining a sea in other thread, soon it may be the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean.

    Love Cecil

A little of Cecil is fine. As the Washington Post wrote Beaton would have done wonders with a smartphone. The film opens in Philadelphia, but has strong opposition from "The Cakemaker."
  21. That couldc have happened to people of any age, not just the elderly.
  22. One could argue that whether or not Truman woul have bombed white folks is a political issue that would be discussed in politcal science course, not a history course. If Trump had bombed whites, how badly would have hurt him, if at all, in the 1946 and 1948 elections. Also, political science departments offer undergratuate and graduate courses on the presidency where Truman can be studied in depth. That could include comparing Truman with FDR, Ike, Kennedy and LBJ & Nixon on this specific important matter.
  23. I do not agree that both parties are in their death throes. The GOP survived Herbert Hoover and several dacades later, Barry Goldwater. Nineteen months ago Obama was president. The Dems have won two the last three Preidential elections.
  24. Only the morning I was discharged from the Army on June 22, 1969. but, to be fair, I could not sleep at night. Unrelated, it was the night, Judy Garland died in London.
  25. Yes, I spent about ten days there with a boat in the 1990s. You are right, I should have just given the name.
