  1. I knew Sidney Poitier's cousin in the Army so was aware the family has deep roots in the Bahamas. Jeffrey Poitier has said at least 23 relatives are unaccounted for as of Thursday, including his sister and her grown children. Jeffrey and his sister are nephew and niece of Sidney Poitier, who is 92 years old.
  2. With the exception of "Wtness for the Prosection," her films are mostly forgotten. Yes?
  3. I remember the night Judy Garland told Jack Paar that Dietrich "is not one of our great singer." Paar was in London so it wasn't live, rather on tape. Prime time, not late night. In the mid 1960s, Dietrich was still performing, so Garland shouldn't have said anything.
  4. I saw "The Boy From Oz" in a theater in Sydney, Australia in 1998. At intermission, I happen to see a small sign that signified that Dietrich's last concert took place there. I believe she fell at some point that last night. The theater: some variation of Her Majesty's ......
  5. Are people who watch programs in 2019 to 2022 interested in Dietrich in the 1960s?
  6. Strange answer for people who know you from this site, and consider hiring you. Several years ago I had to negotiate with a provider I knew for here. I liked him for his personality and sex appeal. We were never able to agree on an amount ☹️. To be fair, I could not afford his quoted amount even when he compromised. Yet, we still know each from this site, and it did not change our relationship here.
  7. When my dad died, my mother never thought about moving. Their Massachusetts home had an amazing view of a nearby lake. One of her neighbors once worked with my father. They did not know the connection until a few years later. It helped a lot as my mom got older.
  8. John McEnroe was just as bad in tennis matches. When his children were young, McEnroe let them run around in the broadcast booth at the US Open.
  9. Federer is serving at the beginning of the fifth set against Gregor D
  10. Fine for one hire, but very awkward for many subsequent hires with the same provider.
  11. Danill Medvedev defeated Stan Warwinka in the fourth set easily winning the quarter final match. Next the seml finals on Friday weather permitting.
  12. Right now Medvedev is ahead in a quarter final match at the US Open. What's not to like?
  13. You keep writing the same thing about the US Open. I attend most years since years since 1981 and the Australian Open once. Melbourne is less rowdy and more. The Russian is doing just ok in a current match.
  14. Who sees the same escort over 100 times? Did he sign a non disclosure agreement too?
  15. Like Ethel Merman in "Gypsy." Seriously, I liked Darren Criss in Hedwig. Much better ? than I expected.
  16. This guy just started a job and moved to a new city. Why would he start looking for a new job so soon? I wasn't out when I was drafted in 1967. But I didn't care if someone asked if I was gay. My dad died when I was 16. He served in World War Two. Now I am glad I did not attempt to get out of the Army. I learned a lot about bullies and I also have many VA benefits.
  17. He was fined$9,000.
  18. When I was discharged from the Army in June, 1969 after flying from Saigon to Oakland, California, that is what people said to me. I turned down the first job because it was with the Managing Director of Philadelphia. I have passesd a civil service exam so I guessed I would be offered another job I did agree on the second job because it had no politcal feel. I worked in a super market in Natick, Massachusetts for three months before I had the second job offer.
  19. And he stupidly thanked the crowd for the "motivation.". The night crowds at the US Open are without mercy.
  20. We do not disagree about staying in the closet, rather your suggestion he find another job. He just started this job, and moved to a new city for the job. @Unicorn, mentioning a Fortune 500 company goes with your showing photos of houses you might buy.
  21. @Unicorn, I takes a lot of bull crap to tell someone else to find another job. You know absolutely nothing about his financial situation, or how difficult it may have been to land this new job.
  22. Every time I mention something from the 1960s, you disagree. If I recall correctly, you weren't old enough to see either the "Annie Get Your Gun" revival, or the awful television version.
  23. Gypsy opened on Broadway with Ethel Merman in 1959 when she was 51 years old. I wasn't writing about the film. By 1960, Ethel looked her age (I saw "Gypsy" on Broadway from a front row seat). Too old to have such young kids. She should have won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. The revival of "Annie Get Your Gun"was a mistake. In the television version, broadcast on tape in early 1967 (and never again), Ethel looked old enough to be Frank Butler's aunt. I
  24. Ethel Merman was 51 years old when "Gypsy" opened in New York. Merman played other cities after "Gypsy" closed on Broadway. I saw her in the musical in Boston in 1961 at the Colonial Theater. She never played Rose in revivals, or London. Her parents were elderly and in poor health, so Ethel had to pass on London.
  25. I am surprised too, because he's someone I barely remember.
