The somewhat interesting new biography of Mike Nichols reports Nichols envisioned a national threater company that would perform classic American plays. He hoped Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Amanda Pluimmer and Mandy Patinkin would be the core performers.
Interesting and fun. In my 20s, a friend paid back a moderate size debt. I used the money to fly to Rio and Brasilia in 1974. Had always traveled with other people before, so major learning experience.
To write Brasilia was in the middle of nowhere would be an understatement.
At some point Helen Hayes was allergic to dust and could no longer perform in theaters, perhaps the reason for television.
