Often bundling ends up being cheaper than buying services separately. I do, and they even gave me a landline, which I never use, but it still saved money. Regarding your summer residence, depending on the carrier, we have "stop-n-start" service. You pay only for the months/weeks/ days you are there. They will turn it on when you arrive and off when you leave. During the months we are gone, there is a $10 maintenance fee to keep the account open, but it saves paying for services on an empty household.

  9. If you feel uncomfortable taking some of the suggestions from above, a simple house safe that is either bolted to the concrete or secured to the floor boards would give you some peace of mind. They are relative inexpensive and can be installed with simple tools. I can't ever remember not having one. Spend a little extra and get one that is fire rated to a degree that would protect your contents if the building burned down or survive most natural disasters. Jewelry, extra cash, important papers, passports etc. can all be safely protected for very little money. You can also get creative and install it someplace that most people would never dream of looking.
  10. Yes, fascinating animals, and very adaptable. Sad to say, but when I lived in LA in the foothills, Coyotes would routinely wander the neighborhood at night. They had absolutely no fear of humans. They would hide between the parked cars and snatch small dogs off the leash of unsuspecting owners. My neighbor had her small poodle torn away from her by a coyote. It was a pretty traumatic experience. Sometimes I would see them standing in the middle of the street watching me. My dog was fairly large, so I never had a problem, but I gave them their space.
  11. All of this is so tragic. The death of someone so young is always such a loss. It just boggles the mind why guys engage in such dangerous behavior. Prayers to his family and friends...May he go in peace.
