Fair statement! I think that’s what drew me to the list, even though it’s a purely Penguin list . Looking for some undiscovered authors. IMHO Akbar has a lot of promise, loved Martyr! Moving on to Ocean Vuong’s The Emperor of Gladness.

Three episodes in and have zero idea where this thing is headed. Not your conventional LGBTQ story. Rather stylish editing, though the ending of last night’s episode threw me when the Polish dialogue cut out and the narration went into English even though the subtitles remained in English. Perhaps HBO did this for the North American audience?
