Providers asking for a client's professional services
corndog replied to Ali Gator's topic in Questions About Hiring
This is everything. The appropriate response is "Can't you give me a free massage? We're friends." -
On internet forums like this one, there is an insidious psychology that takes hold. One or two negative voices can easily feel like "the whole forum" is ganging up against you. In most cases, the loudest voices represent the views of a very, very small minority. We must also consider that the written word often loses the tone that the author intended. In person, you may be able to make some comments where you communicate a wry sarcasm through your tone of voice or facial expressions, but online that may come across in a very different way than you intended. Sarcasm is very dangerous in written forums. This particular forum relies more than most on the anonymity of its users. That anonymity gives us great freedom to discuss things we wouldn't talk about with even our closest friends in real life. But, it also gives an opportunity for "trolls" to misbehave without any repercussions. If you feel attacked, or you're feeling empathy for someone else being attacked here, consider that the opinions of anonymous internet trolls should have absolutely no impact on you. Let it go, don't escalate it.

Luxury cruise lines - which is your favorite?
corndog replied to CuriousByNature's topic in The Travel Desk
Be aware that even if you purchase the ship's internet service, location-based apps like Grindr or Scruff don't really work at sea. Your phone (and the phones of other cruisers) can't reliably determine your location. You may have some luck using the apps while in port and then continuing your conversations once out to sea, but that depends on whether other cruisers do the same. The ships will often organize LGBT+ gatherings (sometimes listed as "Friends of Dorothy") but, depending on the demographics of the voyage, you may find that most people are traveling as couples or with families. -
July 3-6 is Essence Festival in New Orleans, and it generally has significant impact on the atmosphere and overall mood of the city. A lot of the regulars will be absent, and a different crowd will be present.

His Instagram mentions he's an "Opacarophile." Look that up and make sure it aligns with your interests.

Bogotá, Colombia (December 2022/January 2023)

Your intuition about Rentmen is 100% correct. The guys who advertise there often expect to get US prices because rentmen is primarily used by visitors from the US. You'll find that guys on mileroticos.com typically charge 200,000 pesos (about $50). Another site, skokka.com.co are even less, often 100,000 pesos, although I think it's more along the lines of the old craigslist. You also may find you're amazingly popular on Grindr where older white guys seem to be considered exotic and desirable. Unlike Mexico, it's pretty hard to find guys who speak English. If you don't speak Spanish, Google Translate may be your new best friend. When contacting guys (they all use WhatsApp, btw), it's probably best to start in Spanish, at least until you get a rate. If you start in English, I think you'll get the gringo rates that they use on rentmen. -
Bogotá, Colombia (December 2022/January 2023)
corndog replied to + José Soplanucas's topic in The Americas
I currently like to stay near Parque de la 93. It's an upscale neighborhood and feels very safe day or night. There are lots of pubs and restaurants nearby. On my first trip to Bogota, I strived to stay near the gay bars, but I quickly learned that was not the best strategy. In that part of town, things vary widely from block to block, and some areas are pretty sketchy. Ubers are amazingly cheap in Bogota, just $2-3 to go clear across town, so it isn't so important to stay close to the action. -
I think he is. Kenny texted me to let me know that TSMS is closed and that he is temporarily working at Paris.

I think this analysis is fundamentally flawed. Consider the top line: West Hollywood. The men who advertise there are usually serving the entire Los Angeles area. So, the saturation is calculated based on the number of advertisers compared to the population of West Hollywood (about 35,000) instead of Los Angeles (about 4 million) or the greater Los Angeles area (about 18 million). My intuition tells me that New York City is just as saturated (or more) than Los Angeles, and yet this analysis paints the opposite picture.

For what it's worth, I avoid guys who call themselves "total tops" or "strict tops." In my experience, these guys are selfish tops who don't take into account the pleasure and comfort of the bottom. The worst are guys with hangups about their masculinity who think that it's "more gay" to bottom than it is to top. In my opinion, some experience bottoming makes a person a better top because they can understand and relate to the experience of the bottom.

South America Report - Brazil/Argentina/Colombia
corndog replied to MrDakota's topic in Male Strip Clubs
Do you have any more details about this place? There is a "house of boys" that doesn't seem to really have a name. Is this what you're referring to? https://colombiaescorts.co -
What language is this? What does it mean?

I met him last September and received a great massage with amazing extras. I contacted him a month later for a repeat, and got a reply that said "My rate went down to $90 bucks an hour or $50 bucks for 30 minutes. I no longer do anything sexual during the massage because now I have a partner and he lives with me. I can still massage you while you’re naked though. I kinda wanna stay faithful and change my life in that perspective." I appreciated that he was upfront about that. I'm not sure that's still his situation, as I've noticed that his rates have gone back up. He didn't seem like he had "issues" when I met him, but his social media has some religious overtones, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealing with some guilt, internal conflict, or internalized homophobia. Whatever you do, bring sufficient US dollars or Euros. Unlike most places, where you'll get a decent exchange rate using an ATM (or using a credit card for everything), in Argentina, their economy is such a disaster that you'll get a MUCH better rate exchanging cash for Argentinian Pesos through sketchy street vendors. Strictly therapeutic masseurs on gay sites - yay or nay?

Strictly therapeutic masseurs on gay sites - yay or nay?
corndog replied to viewing ownly's topic in Questions About Hiring
@Simon Suraci & @Jamie21: Thanks for your thoughtful responses, and allow me reiterate that I didn't intend to attack or offend, just to continue this conversation. As a matter of fact, I've had a massage from Simon, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended for sure. This sounds like good, simple advice, but I think it's more complicated than that. It's difficult to articulate your desires when you're not really sure about them. For example, I might make an appointment because I really need good muscle therapy. But, in there intervening time, or due to the sexiness of the masseur, what I want when I'm actually on the table might be different. For many of us, part of the thrill of a sensual/erotic massage is the suspense. The lingering question of "will he/won't he" heightens the experience. I think there is a fetish/fantasy element at play here. Some masseurs respond poorly to direct conversations about the sensual/erotic aspects. Perhaps they're concerned about law enforcement or licensing authorities, but whatever the case, simply talking about it with some masseurs will freak them out. Personally, I can say that happy if I walk away with either a great therapeutic massage, or a fun erotic experience. It's rare to get both, but when it happens it's pure magic. -
Strictly therapeutic masseurs on gay sites - yay or nay?
corndog replied to viewing ownly's topic in Questions About Hiring
I really like legit, therapeutic massage, and often it's all I'm after, but it's sometimes hard to find quality. I also enjoy an erotic massage now and then, but it's a separate thing. I'm often a little disappointed when I'm seeking a real therapeutic massage and the masseur is either incapable or uninterested in providing it. When it becomes clear that masseur intends to take a session in the erotic direction, I "go with flow," and accept it, knowing that I'm unlikely to get a good therapeutic massage from someone with another agenda. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. @Simon Suraci and @Jamie21 have suggested that it is the clients that push a therapeutic massage into the erotic zone. I respectfully and lovingly call "bullshit." When I arrive for a therapeutic massage, I lay down on the table, face down, with my hands by my sides. As the massage progresses, many times the masseur's crotch rubs against my hands as he's massaging my back and shoulders. This is not an accident. A real, legit, therapeutic masseur is perfectly capable of giving a complete massage without rubbing their crotch against your hands or face. When this happens, it feels like it would be borderline insulting to not respond at all, and so I do. And so, a delicate dance ensues and things generally escalate to a level of sexuality/eroticism that hopefully both the masseur and I are comfortable with. It's my goal to never overstep what the masseur is comfortable with, but I can see that he may be second guessing my intentions and believe that I'll only be satisfied if the whole thing turns sexual. My main point is that it isn't always "demanding clients" that push beyond the therapeutic limits. A real, strictly therapeutic masseur is perfectly capable of giving a great massage without ever sending signals of sexual possibilities. I've experienced some great therapeutic masseurs who thoroughly work my butt and inner thighs without ever going into the erotic zone. Occasionally, it feels almost comical the way they must be contorting their body to avoid contact with their groin, but a professional with a therapeutic agenda is certainly capable of it. -
In most countries, it seems like the guys who advertise on Rentmen expect US rates, rather than the market rates in their local region. Are his rates typical for Bangkok or is he asking for US rates to take advantage of "farang?"

This problem actually goes both ways. As clients, I think many of us have experienced providers flaking out or not showing up. In many cases, we've carved a significant amount of time out of our schedules, showered, douched, planned our diet around bottoming, sometimes rented a hotel room, etc. When we're stood up, it usually isn't a simple matter to find another option that is available on short notice. Our time is valuable, too. Perhaps we, as clients, should require a deposit to ensure that providers show up. Laughable, right? So, although I sympathize with your frustration, it's unfortunately a risk that we all must accept. Yes, it sucks.

I have no knowledge of him, but everything about his ad says "strictly therapeutic/legit." I don't think there is any reason to expect more.

Well, I was one of the first in line, and I've now been using it for about a week. This thing is glimpse of the future. There is a lot about it that is simply amazing, but it is definitely a "1.0" product, with its share of shortcomings and lots of room for improvement. I'm old enough to remember when the original Mac was introduced, and of course the iPhone. In both cases, there were many naysayers, but each of these ultimately changed the world. I'm pretty sure that the importance of this is on the same scale. Right out of the gate, there are already some questionable assumptions and misinformation. Let me address a couple of these... That's a real concern, and, in my opinion, an issue I'd take very seriously with Meta/Facebook, Google, or Amazon. Their business models are all about monetizing the data they collect about you and your behavior. Although Apple builds their products with an eye toward locking you into their ecosystem, they take privacy very seriously and their success is based largely on maintain users' trust in those privacy safeguards. Although they get a lot of criticism for their "walled garden" approach, it largely prevents rogue developers from abusing users' privacy. I do some development work, and I can tell you first hand that the privacy-based limitations can be frustrating, and ultimately prevent some interesting possible applications. Apple severely restricts the information that applications can use. For example, a Vision Pro application can't tell what you're looking at until you actually interact with it, and can't directly access the cameras at all. Like all of the other Apple products, there is plenty of porn available. Generally, they won't allow porn apps on the App Store, but there are no restrictions on the content you can access through a web browser. PornHub, OnlyFans, Rentmen, you name it.

I gave him a try. It was strictly therapeutic and conscientiously draped. As far as his technique goes, it was strong and deep and pretty good. Perhaps he's improved since @7829V's experience. I'd give it an A-. That said, I think maybe his rates have gone up, too. For a strictly therapeutic massage without even a hint of sensuality, I think his rate is pretty high.

Unfortunately, this is usually the case. Even when both people take the situation in stride, it is, in my experience, nearly impossible to get back "in the moment." I think the best thing to do is to behave with dignity, minimize the inevitable embarrassment and realize that it happens to just about everyone from time to time, regardless of preparation. Conversely, the opposite can occur... sometimes you end up bottoming unexpectedly in spite of your better judgment, and everything is fine.
