  1. First of all, the photos and video can't be compared to seeing the show live and in person (especially from the second row). Secondly, despite the precautions taken by the theater and given the state of technology, this was not entirely unexpected. I do recall that a series of photos were out there for the original production at the Public Theater in 2002 that looked like they were taken by a professional photographer. These photos showed the cast in several scenes including the shower scenes. Of course the cast members at that time weren't well known and our phones weren't also cameras.
  2. I have been watching the show. I usually don't get that emotionally engaged and usually record it and watch it the next day so I can speed over some of what I consider the stupid parts (usually when someone is acting like a complete horse's ass). I did watch last night's episode however, without speeding through and at the end tears were streaming down my face. I suspect it impacted me because I lost my father a few months ago and it hit home for me. That said, I am ready for the story to be done and I am weary of the characters.
  3. The phone is locked in a pouch that is in your possession at all times. That said, they ask that it be powered off before you put it in the pouch. I don't recall them actually checking to see it was turned off, but if it rang or made noise while in the pouch you likely wouldn't be able to silence it if you left it on without muting it.
  4. I saw "Company" in New York a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I did feel the gender change of Bobby to Bobbie totally worked. I did much prefer Katrina Lenk's performance in "The Band's Visit" over her performance in this show, but I didn't dislike her at all And yes, Claybourne Elder is a treat!
  5. I had a carabiner that I used to attach one bag to another. Actually I had two, but one was much sturdier than the other, and I had traveled all over the world with them. That is, until I flew out of the Bordeaux airport. The local airport manager had decided that carabiners could be used like brass knuckles, so that airport banned them on carry-ons. I talked them out of taking the lighter weight one as it wasn't really sturdy enough for that purpose. The far more expensive, heavy-duty one was confiscated. It was purely a local airport decision.
  6. I saw American Buffalo as well this past weekend. The cast seemed solid, I especially enjoyed Sam Rockwell who has been in a ton of movies over the last nearly 30 years, but I don't feel is a household name. The last thing I saw Darren Criss in on stage was Helwig and this, of course, was a totally different role for him. I'm not a big Mamet fan, so I saw the show primarily because of the cast. I moved last year and had boxes of Playbills from the past nearly 40 years of theater-going and debated about what to do with them. They ended up moving with me, hopefully I will be able to go through them some day and organize them as I just tossed them randomly into the moving boxes..
  7. I saw the play Saturday evening. The cast is attractive and funny, very flamboyant and quite over the top. Like foxy said above, I couldn't quite relate to the use of the female pronouns when referring to each other. I guess I'm "old and stodgy" as well.
  8. I also saw the play at the Public 20 years ago, and then after it transferred to Broadway. I saw the current production this past weekend and enjoyed it. Listening to some of the conversations of other audience members around me during intermission and after the show, the response to locking up the phones was viewed as positive since all the audience members who commented said it was great to not have the distraction of some idiot's glowing screen during the performance irregardless of the concern over filming the cast during "vulnerable" moments. A couple of people who had also seen the play 20 years ago seemed to remember that there were there two shower scenes with most of the team members, not just one as in the current production (in addition to the one with only Darren and Shane). My memory on that isn't clear at all. There is a line about the difference between democracy and baseball being that baseball acknowledges that the loser has actually lost - unlike democracy, which of course, got a huge laugh. If that line was in the original production, I don't think it had the same reaction as it did today. I also noted that racist language hit much harder now that it seemed to 20 years ago. Beforehand, I was wondering if the play would be dated today - my conclusion was not really, although I have read some comments to the contrary. Any yes, the nudity is right up front, well lit, and lingers for a while and Jesse Williams is indeed "blessed".
  9. I watched the first two episodes today. The promised penises are there in the first episode, although the one on the guy chosen to be the centerfold of the first issue of the magazine "Minx", is likely a prosthetic. I'll probably keep watching as new episodes come out, since much of it was fairly amusing.
  10. I may have to give it another chance - I fell asleep the first time through.
  11. Watched both seasons, never been a huge fan of Danny McBride, but he totally works in this show, as does John Goodman. It is very over the top and I find it really funny. There is also some beefcake and a occasional penis, if you are into that sort of thing.
  12. I enjoyed season 1 and am now about halfway through season 2. The men are stunning and the dancing is fun to watch. In the series they are employed as fantasies for women, but there is a small gay subplot involving one of the "boy toys". I now want to visit Marbella Spain.
  13. Really enjoyed the first episode of Reacher; I remember Alan Ritchson from Smallville as well as Blue Mountain State in which he spent a fair amount of time running around in just a jockstrap. He was also recently in the superhero show Titans where he displayed his magnificent backside a few times. If you look on YouTube he also has some singing videos as well as an appearance on American Idol when he was younger.
  14. I just had to chime in on Marin Mazzie - her voice and presence were incredible. I saw her in several broadway shows as well as in concert with Jason. Her voice seemed to get richer as time went on. If only she had beat cancer and was still with us. I still get chills listening to her on the OBC recording of "Ragtime". Not to take anything away from Lea Salonga, who I saw way back when in "Miss Saigon" as well as a few years ago in "Allegiance". I guess I fell in love with both of them.
  15. I have noticed that there are some posters who come on to this scene - post very regularly for a period of time and then disappear. Perhaps they join to get support or input while working through an issue, or find this community and enthusiastically join for a period of time. There are other posters like me, who have been around for a while, but only post when they really want to say something. One of the members I miss is leigh.bess.toad who contributed often for a while and organized some of the DC get togethers.

    In The Heights

I saw the show on Broadway and watched the movie today. Thought it was an excellent translation to the screen. The character, Abuela Claudia, is played in the movie by the same actress as in the original Broadway cast, a role for which she received a TONY nomination.
  17. I have a home office that is cluttered, but it causes me no stress, since I know the things I need are there. Cleaning it is far more stressful for me. The rest of the house is not cluttered, I just allow it in what I consider my sanctuary.
  18. I was able to fly on the Concorde only once, from London to New York. It was a memorable experience! I have also flown on the A380 (in business, not first). I think I read that the A380 is being retired. If I am not too old by the time the United Boom goes into service, I will definitely want to give it a try.
  19. This is the post I was fearing to read. Beyond sad. I got to meet him a couple of times and once he invited me to sit beside him while he went through and cleared reviews for posting. This site has been so instrumental in creating a community. I lurked for many years before I actually joined. Some folks have joined and been constants throughout the years, others have joined for a period of time and then vanished. I have noticed that many used it as a support for a transition in their lives, burned bright with many posts and then "retired". I hope there is is way of preserving and maintaining what we have here. So long Daddy, and thank-you so much for all of this.
  20. I think those reviews were what brought me to the forum originally. If my memory is correct, the reviews were done early in the week and if there was a dancer I was interested in, I could go into the city on the weekend and see them. I saw T.J. dance many times, but his after dance-card was always booked solid.
  21. I actually didn't plan on watching the show after the first episode, in fact, I posted here that it would be one and done for me. However, I ended up watching the second, then the third, then kept watching. I agree the about the hammer. The lawyer was played by Karin Konoval, who also plays a doctor on the current TNT series "Snowpiercer".
  22. HBO Max is not available on every streaming device. It is available in the App Store on Apple and the equivalent Google Play store for Android for phones and tablets. Newer models of Samsung TVs can add it as well, but it may be difficult to find - I used the Bixby voice AI and asked it to find the HBO Max app, and it did. HBO recently added Roku devices and works with Amazon Fire and TIVO Stream devices. The Amazon Fire Stick is not that expensive and if you have an Amazon Prime account, very easy to set up. If you already have HBO, your login credentials for your TV provider will also work as your HBO Max login. Hope that was somewhat helpful.
  23. Summer job while in college working in the un-airconditioned laundry of a large state-run senior facility. The temperature was about 115 degrees by the dryers, which I loaded and unloaded. I also hated loading the urine-stained, fecal-material loaded sheets into the large industrial washing machines. Nearly everyone who worked there was at least in their 50's and had been working there for years so no one talked to me.
  24. Found this: "we learn that It’s a Sin will debut Thursday, February 18 on HBO Max, and get comfy on your couch because the series will premiere binge style with all five episodes dropping at once."
