Congratulations!! You must be so proud to have a incoming Midshipman. I will keep my fingers crossed for the other twin. Stanford may be far away, but believe me, you'll love visiting him there.

I'll butt out after this, but you said Lance is the first uncut man you've hired. Could it be that he's unusually sensitive for reasons unrelated to being uncut? If you'd never been cut, you might be a bit more sensitive, but not necessarily at Lance's level.

As part of the new initiative, every Air Canada terminal will also include an emotional baggage claim. After landing, passengers will be encouraged to visit the claim area, check in with an attendant and "really try to own whatever issues are preventing them from being a tolerable human being." http://www.cbc.ca/beta/comedy/funnystuff/air-canada-to-start-charging-for-emotional-baggage-in-2017-1.3631162

Too bad you don't live here. My downstairs neighbors--originally a couple, now a threesome--just put a hammock on their huge terrace. (I went to one of their parties, which had a swinger undertone after a certain hour.) Not sure if they're looking to be seen, but they picked a spot in the line of sight of at least 8 apartments. I wasn't looking to participate in their scene, but anytime I switched the AC on or off, there they were. The new girl was really paying her rent on that thing!

I can see your point. First, from what I recall, okcupid's profiles are much longer than those on other apps. In any case, everyone puts his best foot forward in the profiles. If one has to ask, one probably won't like the answer--if it's forthcoming at all. Like grindr, OKcupid is free. So there are probably a lot of people on there who aren't too serious about meeting someone. Some are in a relationship and ware toying with the idea of leaving. Others are just marking to market. Keeping a lot of balls in the air (no pun intended), as you may be doing now, is probably the best way to go. My understanding was that Snapchat notified you if someone took a screenshot. But if I send anything online, I do so with the understanding that it may be sent to others. Good advice about reading the TOS.

QTR, I'm sorry about the bad experiences, but I'm glad to hear I have good ones. I think you're wise to avoid revealing your real name until you meet, or at least speak to, someone. I'm suspicious of those who are too quick to insist on talking or meeting. I'd rather hear something about them first. There's a downside to that though, especially if you only check the app sporadically. By the time you get back, some of the good ones are gone.

LOSING WEIGHT ... and the even bigger challenge of keeping it off
+ FreshFluff replied to Moondance's topic in The Lounge
I'm sure you're right, but I'm a little confused. By that same reasoning, drinking 10 glasses of water per day would also put extra strain on the heart. Sure, it would be flushed out, but more of it would be there at one time than would be the case otherwise. Haha, I saw that. 2% milk and fluffiness: Who can argue with that? Woah, 35 pounds under the lower end of the BMI range or the middle? Male dancers have to be quite strong, so I assume you were healthy. -

Oh no--hard or chewy biscuits are no good for the kitten. So hard to find good biscuits here in Manhattan with the transfat ban. I did find one place that makes them though. But what's the problem with salt unless someone has really high blood pressure? Sure, we'd all be better off if we eliminated all artificial sweeteners, sugar, salt and non-omega 3 fats. But most people give up if they can't have anything tasty, and that marginal bit of salt seems like a much better bet than extra fat or sugar. Please don't quote the portion below: I think that few people are capable of "eating clean," as the fitness types call it. The ones who are capable are probably doing it already. I tried when I was in college, and it perversely made me want to binge 'cause I'd have to eat clean again tomorrow, right? (My reproductive system shut down too, but that's a different story.) A few years afterwards, I taught myself to use my already excellent satiety signal to control my portions. It kept it up, and it worked/works. And may God help me keep it up. Another question for you medical types: Why does the BMI range not depend on frame size? On the low end of the range, a significant minority of the women I see around here (not me currently) are <18.5 and appear perfectly healthy. It makes sense at the other end of the range too. -

Really? Reminds me of those shops that sandwich ice cream and fudge sauce between two chocolate chip cookies. Then they act surprised when you go in and only want a cookie. Why dilute the taste? -

The NYT does some good reporting here, but here's something that's always annoyed me about the NYT's style. Why does it always have to over-weight the negative on health stories, even ones about developments that are clearly positive? Now that Cahill has regained the weight, they can say he "looks as handsome as a model" after he lost it. But if they had interviewed him right after the show, they would have written something like, "Cahill looks like a model at first glance. But look at him a moment longer and it's clear that, while he's glowing and happy, he looks a little deflated, more like a balloon that's had some air let out." In fact, the problem is more general: NYT stories about any sort of change usually end with with some quote about how the status quo still stands. I'm too lazy to find examples, but I'm surprised that Twitter (other than Bernie supporters et al.) hasn't seized on this. Let's use weight maintenance as an example again. If a true magic diet pill is ever discovered, you can bet the NYT's story will end with a quote from some doctor who will say, "Fads come and go, but nothing will ever work like the old fashioned way." -

People always loves to quote experts who'd say, "People order a burger with the extra large diet Coke, so what difference does it make?" The difference is still 200 calories, whether it's accompanied by a salad or an extra-large pizza. And if anything, the body is less likely to fight back against small changes (especially when they involve taking out pure sugar) than it is against big ones. -
Josh, your comment above is completely off-base. I often disagree with QTR, but I've never found her comments to be anything approaching man-bashing. If anything, she's the optimist here, the one who believes that we're products of our culture and environment.

As someone who's intelligent in theory, I think this is great news. http://s5.postimg.org/e6hrutpk7/Screen_Shot_2016_03_18_at_12_45_03_PM.png "For men, apparently, having an intelligent girlfriend is like having a pet wolf — cool in theory, but not something you’d want in real life." I'm going to interpret jackjackjack's "Happy Sunday" sort of like the Hays Code: You can post about people doing bad things as long as they're caught and punished.
