In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius decided to put an end to the Feast of Lupercalia, and he declared that February 14 be celebrated as St. Valentine’s Day. there's periodic comment over at gayguides (formerly boytoy and, before that, something else less embarrassing) that foreigners ruin it for the local clients because the foreigners are willing to pay more....conversely, it can be argued that foreigners should be able to seriously haggle because the rate locals pay is very low......just a thought...... but with a US dollar now able to buy 5.25 reals (it was even embarrassingly better a few months ago), I don't think foreign clients should worry too much about whether 150/200/250 reals is a ripoff/deal/problem/average ......you really want to quibble with a hard-working dude over $10??.....talk about ugly American.......hell, the next-to-the-last time I was in RJ (2016), there was a local kid roaming Copa Beach near us trying to steal stuff....he was chased away and was back in minutes.......was probably hungry and very desperate
