It still surprises me how quickly travel has rebounded since the pandemic. I can live with the increase in the price of restaurant dinners etc, but I find hotel room rates have surged upwards to an astonishing degree.
 

Both in the US and Europe, luxury hotels that used to charge $600/€500 a night pre-pandemic are now well into ‘four figure’ territory. Italian hotels in particular are cashing in - I enquired about a September stay in an hotel I’ve visited before, and “as a loyal client” was quoted €2300 a night for a sea-view room!

it is crazy! 

I know inflation is real, but come on... And I know that the employees who make these hotels what they are do not likely cash in at the same level as owners and shareholders.

The hotel has several advantages: I liked the location very much; the rooms are large and quiet; a decent-sized rooftop pool; the staff were pleasant and efficient; and there’s a large garage which never charged me for visitor parking.

As for the OP’s concern about scandal/being seen with various hot young men, it was never a problem for me. There are several gay men on the staff. Once the man on reception congratulated me on my date; another time, when I told the Garage that my visitor was going to extend his parking to stay overnight, the response was Have a great time.

Other than the Ramada, where is it not going to be a scandal where I walk in with a hot young man.

Petit Ermitage, Kimpton La Peer and Chamberlain are on you list of interest. I've stayed at Sofitel several times, but think it was getting tired last time I was there.

Thoughts? Maybe nothing is more 'accessible' that Ramada, but urgh.

oh I wonder what happened to Vince... he sure was a looker in his leather pants. Back in his day, I was still climbing the corporate ladder and could not work him into my budget.

For me being OLD SKOL, I won't book with a provider unless the can make a call. Even if just to confirm time and place after text.

Anyone meet this Dallas based guy [currently in Austin]? He notes English is not good and will not make a call, only text. This would be OK but even text [with translation app according to him] communication has been sparse.

I have been spoiled with friends and family rates in the past. Now I'm on my own and didn't realize rates in Manhatten have grown. 

Anyone have recent experience with a 4⭐️ hotel that was safe,  clean and open enough to have a provider or two visit? 

I'd like to be under $400/ night if possible. I'm coming for pride. Last visit over pride was stonewall 50.
