  1. Northern NJ is a suburb of Manhattan. Entire towns are populated with mostly Wall Street people. There are cops in Jersey making $150k.
  2. Yes it is...I was just up there for my reunion 2 weeks ago.
  3. There are two spas, one in the Borgata and one in the "Water Club" which is the second tower. I have been to the latter. Massage was fine but on the pricey side frankly. Not sure if both spas charge the same. I may or may not have felt slightly ripped off because my masseur was a not very attractive older guy and on the way to my massage I passed a room with a therapist who looked like he could star on a WB show...
  4. If you play correctly blackjack is very close to a wash, and if you do some counting you can actually have a slight edge. Which means you can often play for quite a long time for realtively little outlay, and it's social, getting to chat with the other players. As someone who has a hard time talking to strangers, I find having a built-in subject to talk about works well for me. Poker on the other hand doesn't really appeal to me, it's competing against the other players. Some people like that, and if you are good at math and reading people you can actually expect to make money fairly regularly at lower limits where the competition is weak. The trouble is if you are NOT good at math and enjoy these games....
  5. Part of this is due to the multiplication of our media options. When there were basically 3 TV channels for most of the country, being a TV star meant a huge chunk of the population knew who you were, because a quarter of the population was watching you every week. Now a show is considered quite successful with an audience of 2 or 3 million, less than 1% of the population, and a lot more people "stay in their lane" in terms of what types of media they consume. Something similar is happening with movies and music.
  6. I feel your pain. I seem to have the type of skin/sweat that attracts mosquitoes. It's really annoying.
  7. I could buy it as average among people buying lunch in a major city. Two slices of pizza and a small soda will run you 7 or 8 bucks in Manhattan unless you go to the dollar slice places. But not as an average among all people, because many simply can't afford to do that. That's $3000 a year just for lunch on workdays. Then again, I can't understand how so many people hit Starbucks twice a day...
  8. Doctors don't start making real money until after their residency, though, and unless they come from a wealthy family, typically finance medical school and all their expenses during with loans. So while their nominal income places them high, their disposable income isn't nearly top 1% for a number of years. Surgeons might not really get out of the whole until they are in their 40s.
  9. Casinos pay the dealers and waitresses minimum wage. They make their living on tips, which are pooled. I generally bet a tip for them every 8-10 hands or so win or lose. If you are playing for hours and not tipping at all you're being cheap, and it doesn't sound like for the length of time you played that $25 was anything special. That said the dealers aren't supposed to complain about it and I get thanked even when I tip them $1.
  10. Some of us are not good/are self-conscious when it comes to asking questions in person or even on the phone.
  11. Well the thing is there are SOME men who are paying these ridiculous sums for little actual payoff. Most of them GOP fundraisers it seems...
  12. Also the spas depending on the time of day/who is in town can be rather cruisy. Mirage isn't particularly well set up for it, but things have happened there...Mandalay Bay is VERY cruisy. But there are times when lots of straight people are around so you really need to read the crowd.
  13. LB , Mandalay Bay has ANOTHER gym that is accessible through the spa. It has more equipment and is usually nearly empty. Aria likely does as well. Most of the hotels have a gym you can use for a fee thru the spa and a separate free "cardio center" which is mostly just treadmills and ellipticals and that's it.
  14. No the fee is not waived for guests unless you purchase a spa service.
  15. Also you can generally go naked in the jacuzzis even though many have an old sign up saying swim attire required few pay any attention to it(though sometimes when a group of frat bros come in they all wear board shorts and it really kills the vibe..). There is at least one spa though where the jacuzzi area is co-ed so suits are required. I can't remember which it is as I have never been to it.
  16. Yes the lockers will have locks or a keypad. The ones I've been to are Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Monte Carlo(now Pak MGM), Caesars, Mirage, Flamingo. I can't imagine any wouldn't have locks. The lockers aren't usually big enough for suitcases though you may need to check that at the bell desk.
  17. They aren't employing, but they are certainly connecting buyers and sellers, and if what they are buying and selling is not legal, they can find themselves in trouble, and their assets seized. TSA is just screening travelers, many of whom are simply tourists, of course they don't need to ensure someone is a legal resident.
  18. I would swing by the place before your day of departure just to make sure they aren't strict about spa being for current guests...you might need to check in to the spa before you check out of the room(you get in and out privileges all day on a pass) to make sure you aren't charged the non-guest rate.
  19. If you're just using the spa(and it's usually the same entrance to the spa and the gym, though some hotels have a separate no-fee-for-guests gym that has no locker/shower facilities somewhere else in the building) no need to wear gym clothes. They will give you a locker and robe/sandals/towels and you can stick your clothes there. Many people do exactly what you are doing.
  20. People who charge by the hour don't make bank by spending a lot of time on the low-yield prospects. And someone who calls you multiple times while just thinking about engaging your services is likely a low-yield prospect. I'm not saying the person shouldn't take any calls, I'm saying if someone calls too many times while dithering they shouldn't be surprised if the escort stops responding. I'd say the prima donna is the first-time client who is expecting a lot more off-the-clock engagement than most.
  21. I'm sure, and you don't do that by dealing with the type of client who calls you multiple times asking lots of questions..
  22. You found out doesn't follow from he let you, which implies you asked and therefore knew...
  23. I couldn't get past people who are 40-year exes of extremely successful lawyers, who own beachfront property in California, being desperate for a low- five figure loan to get their business going. They should each have millions in free cash.
  24. I have often wondered if I should have done the same thing. A few years back I met a woman about my age who herself had never married and we would go ogle boys together at bachelor auction fundraiser type things, and a mutual friend said to me, "in another life I think you two would have been married." And I think we'd have made good co-parents. If I could go back in time I think I might actually look for a woman I could be honest with about it and have an open marriage. I've never actually had a "relationship" with a guy.
  25. Liability apportionment varies by state...in some they can't collect unless the defendant is at least 50% liable. I would say if it fell that easily it was probably a hazard and the onus is on the people who put it there in a high-traffic venue.
