  1. Someone recommended this to me about a month ago. I borrowed it from my library (where I work) and couldn't get into it - there was not one character I liked that I wanted to root for. I ended up returning it after reading about 20 pages - I just didn't care about any of the characters.
  2. Barbra's long-awaited book (first announced in 2016, I believe) has a publication date of November 7, 2023. "My Name Is Barbra" (working title, so far) is clocking in at 1024 pages, according to Barbra ( yet new info says it's down to 992 pages) . She claims it covers up to her meeting James Brolin in 1995; the rest of the years are an 'epilogue'. I pre-ordered mine when it was announced earlier this year. It had a retail price of $45, but it has since dropped to $37 on Amazon. (An audiobook by Barbra is also scheduled for retail, according to different sources - the audiobook is available for pre-order for $62). How many of us have pre-ordered the book ? And how many copies and formats have you ordered ?
  3. I'm in the middle of "Heart's Invisible Furies" - and I can't put it down ! I limit myself to how many pages I read each day because I don't want this book to end. (A friend of mine read it in her book club this winter, and passed it on to me for the summer as she and I have the same taste in books). Beautifully written - one of the best books I've read in years. Thanks for the info on the other Boyne books - he's a new author to me, so I want to catch up on all his works.
  4. I'm in the middle of 'The Heart's Invisible Furies' , a 2017 novel by John Boyne. A friend of mine recommended this to me (she read it over the winter for a book club). It's one of those books I'm reading slowly, as I don't want it to end. I encourage everyone to read this book about a boy named Cyril, and his 'coming out' in Ireland. Beautifully written, heartwarming, touching, tearful and mostly funny. You won't be disappointed.
  5. I work in a college library, so I'm lucky to have access to all the major papers (and then some). Over the past ten years which I've been there, I have seen more 'physical' subscriptions canceled, and more e-subscriptions added. We don't even subscribe to our own local newspaper anymore (a ghost of what it was 20 years ago) - it's only accessible on-line in e-edition. As for magazines and other periodicals, we're really cutting back on physical copies of those, too. NO ONE checks out magazines any longer. Hell, no one even pulls one off the shelf to read in the library. And we have quite a selection of magazines appealing to students - from pop culture (movies, music, etc) , gay culture, men's health, women's health, sports and exercise, food, etc. - there's something for everyone. But no one wants them. So they're on the way out as we re-think the area dedicated to periodicals.
  6. Why did my mind go right to Dorothy Zbornack on 'The Golden Girls' ? 😂
  7. Did anyone read her memoir from 2021, titled "Remembering" ? If so, do you recommend it to a casual fan like myself ?
  8. Her family has confirmed the Irish singer passed away this morning at the age of 56. No details were given about her passing. Her single 'Nothing Compares 2 U' still sends chills down my spine - such a powerful song and beautiful video. Irish singer Sinead O'Connor dies aged 56 WWW.REUTERS.COM Sinead O'Connor, the Irish singer known for her stirring voice, 1990 chart topping hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" and outspoken views, has died at the age of 56, Irish media...
  9. He's in RI now. Looks really damn good in some ads / pictures , but not all of them. He's cute and sexy here... https://www.masseurfinder.com/massage-therapists/43365/ His RM (lenghty) reviews are very encouraging. Everyone seems to have had a great time with him. Nothing negative. I wonder how much he charges ?
  10. He's now in RI. Anyone have anything new on him ?
  11. Along with "New York, New York" closing this Sunday, the Laure Metcalf led "Grey House" - billed as Broadway's rare 'thriller' - also posted a closing notice a few days ago. The show opened in previews on April 29, and officially opened on June 6, 2023.It never picked up at the box office - filling the house between 50% -70% during the past six weeks. Broadway’s ‘Grey House,’ Starring Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany, Sets July 30 Closing Date WWW.HOLLYWOODREPORTER.COM The concept of horror is rare on Broadway, but the production was not able to translate that to ticket sales.
  12. Per union rules, the producers have to pay their actors a full week. They could have closed after yesterday's performance, but would still have to pay actors / musicians / crew for a full week. I guess they figured they may as well keep it running for the week.
  13. Thank you - I only searched this site because I didn't think he'd be under escorts. Thanks for your guidance - much appreciated.
  14. Any updates on him ? Whatever happened to him ? All the above links lead to elsewhere but him. I'm intrigued by this guy (but not interested in hiring if he's still working).
  15. Thanks for all this info - one to avoid. He's advertising in my area now, and he looked attractive to me. I inquired under "Spas" (since he is advertising 'masseur' in my area and in the search under 'spas' he didn't come up), but was kindly directed here. Glad I read all this before I reached out to him.
  16. I gathered there were two people in her immediate world: Donna Summer, the performer who will forever be remembered as the artist with the string of hits such as "Love to Love You", "I Feel Love", "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls", etc. And then there's LaDonna Gaines Sommer Sudano, daughter, wife, mother of three and grandmother of 2 (at the time), who enjoyed her Christian life, personal time and family more than her music career and 'celebrity'. She expressed herself through painting, and kept her private life very private. She had said in interviews (and in her memoir) she moved to Nashville from LA, because she never felt at home in LA, but could hide outside of Nashville. She never seeked attention, and never felt comfortable with it - but it came with the territory. She had very few 'celebrity friends', but those she was 'friends' with, she had forever since the 70s - including David Foster, Bruce Springsteen, Sylvester Stallone, Sophia Loren, and Barbra Streisand. She had mentioned whenever she was in LA for business, she would get together for Italian cooking at Sophia Loren's home, where Stallone would join them and the three of them would have 'too much fun'. Then they'd invite their spouses to the dining room, where they would be fed a feast. And still, with this small circle of friends she knew she could share with and trust, she told no one of her cancer diagnosis or how ill she was at the end. Streisand, Springsteen, Foster - they all expressed their shock over her passing, as they had all been in her company months before her passing and she never mentioned how sick she was, never wanting the attention on her. She was a class act. (She explained in her memoir that she met Loren when she lived in Beverly Hills in the 70s / 80s - Loren was her neighbor. When her Italian in-laws would visit, Loren would host an Italian feast at her house, inviting Summer and the Sudanos. Stallone lived down the street from Summer and Loren, and was firendly with Loren - so she used to invite him from time to time, as well (and his mother and brothers if they were visiting). That's how she became friends with Stallone. From time to time, she would just invite Donna and Stallone to her kitchen to give them 'cooking lessons' which they enjoyed).
  17. Just finished binging 'The Serpent Queen' (after I binged 'The Great' LOL!). I really enjoyed it, though I needed to brush up on each episode via Vulture.com to understand who all the players were. I highly recommend !
  18. NY POST said two weeks ago that 'New York, New York' is on its deathbed. https://nypost.com/2023/07/10/broadways-new-york-new-york-could-close-in-weeks-sources/
  19. I'm throwing this out there, but I have a feeling this guy might be too new. His prices are reasonable, wonder if he's worth a spin ? By any chance - has anyone tried him yet ? Maybe under a different name ? TallMasseur on RentMasseur RENTMASSEUR.COM View my profile on RentMasseur.com
  20. Did you tell him you would happily pay him the lower number, since you're the one with the money ?
  21. Bumping. He'll be in my area tomorrow - anyone with experience at all, or anyone know his former name ?
  22. What a dud the last People's Court show was - the twins suing each other. A wasted hour episode. One of the things Marilyn tries very hard to do is turn her show into Dr. Phil, and that's not what the focus of her sow is supposed to be. She turns into a family therapist as she tries to patch up relationships, rather than focus on the legal case. I'm not a fan of this. When plaintiffs bring their personal drama to 'Judge Judy', JJ reminds them 'this is a courtroom - if you're looking for Dr. Phil, that's another program'. TPC would be more interesting if Marilyn didn't play 'court therapist' and left that for Dr. Phil.
  23. I'm not sure about that - JJ and other court shows employ writers. If you ever read the credits at the end, you will see her show has writers.
  24. According to JJ, her agreement with the streaming platform was that nothing could be the same as her syndicated show, since her original was still continuing in reruns each day. This is why she couldn’t bring Byrd along ( and he knew this), she wears a purple robe not a black one, she added a court stenographer and she added her granddaughter. No way could the audience confuse these two shows with the changes. JJ has developed another court series for streaming TV which the two female judges from Hot Bench will be on along with Byrd. It’s supposed to be airing this fall, but not sure because of the strike.
  25. Friday 7/21 is the last first run episode of TPC. After that it’s all reruns.
