It should be noted that State Senator Steans, the sponsor of the bill, is heterosexual and also sponsored two laws supporting same-sex marriage including the one that became law in 2012. Steans' predecessor, Carol Her district includes Edgewater, which encompasses Andersonville, the "second" LGBT community (after Lake View), which also happens to be one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the country. Makes me wish I still lived in Chicago so I could vote for her.
