What a stupid senseless waste!

And although this does not affect the above statement, he sure was a looker too!

And why does an off-duty cop carry a gun on him? The NYTimes reported he drew his gun and it was his refusal to drop it that led the policeman who arrived on the scene to shoot him 3 times. Why would an off-duty cop not obey an armed and uniformed policeman? There are many questions here which I suppose may come out in the investigation. On the other hand, who will do the investigation? Will it be the same police force that he belonged to and that killed him or will it be another authority? I don't know what the procedure is in NYC.

Off-duty cops carry guns, permissible or not. I have no problem with that. In the situation I posted about, the only explanation I can think of as to why the officer did not ID himself to the uniformed cop is the trauma of the beating. He had bad head injuries, and most likely was pretty scared. We will never know the true reason.

Lucky, Apparently the Cop that shot him was the one who was scared! How many times did he shoot him,UNBELIEVABLE ...

A truly Sad End to a Young Life, regardless of his looks. Some of NYC'S Finest are not all that fine!

Well, I don't dispute that some of the finest are not so fine, but are you implying that the shooting was not justified? The deceased had his gun at someone's head and refused to drop it...I think the uniformed cop is quite traumatized by what happened, but nonetheless justified in his action.

There's no point, after the fact around here, going into whether or not "shooting someone", is going to prevent them from pulling the trigger of a gun, aimed at someone so close!

We'll just see how this plays out. BUT "Justifiable" will probably be the end result, of a very bad Judgement call!

Feeling whatever, I guess is what the "shooter", will have to live with! IMHO of course...

That was so sad. Poor guy. He had so many years ahead of him. Imagine dying like that.

On a separate note I have to admit,"Damn he was hot!"

Lucky, I'm surprised at your comments. You seem to know everything there is to know about this incident even before an inquiry is held and have reached the conclusion that the shooting was justified. Jeesh!

The available evidence is based upon several eyewitness accounts. The encounter wherein the deceased refused to drop his gun was recorded by a witness on his cellphone video.

Of course, more information could develop, and my opinion (which is what it is) could change based upon new information. My basic conclusion will not though...this is a sad turn of events.
