Speaking on his "700 Club" T-V show, Roberson noted the Israeli leader's stroke and suggested God was punishing him for "dividing God's land."

 

That was a reference to last year's Gaza withdrawal, which Sharon engineered.

 

White House spokesman Trent Duffy calls the remark "wholly inappropriate and offensive." And speaking to reporters as President Bush flew to Chicago, he said it has no place "in this or any other debate."

 

Robertson's comment has already been called "outrageous and shocking" by the Jewish Anti-Defamation League. And Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid branded it "insulting."

This situation with this pastor didn't involve prostitution because he never offered money for a sex act. He was charged with offering to "engage in a lewd act", which here in Ohio is called importuning. The premise of which is that that the person being offered a sex act might be offended by such. Importuning laws were mostly enforced against gay men. Ohio's importuning law was recently challenged by a gay man who'd offered a blowjob to a jogger who got his license plate number and reported him to the police. The importuning law was determined to be unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court.

I'm with La Trix! There may have been a "clean-up" campaign that snared this nasty old hypocrite, but they rarely last very long. These kinds of goings-on are hard to stamp out. Six months from now I'd be willing to bet that this Middle American meat rack will be operating just as it always has. Which, for devotees of the street scene, certainly will boost Okliehomo City's tourist appeal! It seems that OKC has a metropolitan sheen that even Los Angeles, San Francisco and NYC can no longer match! }( Hopefully the guys working this meat rack are worth the effort!

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Southern Baptist Convention said Thursday it does not plan to remove a reverend from the convention's executive committee after he was arrested on charges of offering to engage in an act of lewdness.

 

Rev. Lonnie Latham, 59, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church and a member of the Southern Baptist Convention's executive committee, was arrested Tuesday on an allegation that he propositioned a plainclothes police officer outside a hotel. He is accused of asking the officer to join him in his hotel room for oral sex, said police Capt. Jeffrey Becker.

 

"Typically when there's a moral failure of this sort, there's a voluntary resignation," Kenyn Cureton, vice president for convention relations, said Thursday. "If the charges are true, this is tragic news. I hope it's not true. But it doesn't look good, obviously. Certainly he and his church family are in our prayers."

 

Latham has supported a convention directive urging members to befriend gays and lesbians and try to convince them that they can become heterosexual "if they accept Jesus Christ as their savior and reject their 'sinful, destructive lifestyle."'
