I think that it's difficult to confront someone about getting an STD from him because unless you haven't had intimate contact with anyone else, you could have gotten it from another encounter. And even if you only had intimate contact with one person, if you are confronting someone you don't really know (a masseur versus a boyfriend or lover or husband) they don't really have any reason to believe that you got something from them versus maybe you transmitting something to them.

Therefore I think the best way to handle it is simply to contact the guy, say you tested positive for whatever STD it is, and recommend he see his doctor for screening/treatment if he hasn't already done so. That leaves the blame game out of it.

Unless he lives in a bubble, it is REALLY hard to pinpoint if a particular person or masseur passed an STD to your friend. You literally would have to only have been with JUST that person or masseur during the incubation period, which is hard to pinpoint. I would NOT contact the masseur and in any way suggest it was passed on from them. There is no point in that, and will only result in the masseur becoming defensive. In the interest of public health I would just contact the masseur to alert them that you recently found out you have an STD and he might have been exposed and should be tested.

I’m getting a lot of messages - it wasn’t me. It was someone I chatted with recently. The massuer is in Los Angeles and FREQUENTLY discussed in this forum.

There is no need to disclose or hint as to who the masseur may be. It's purely hearsay, as it is hard to pinpoint exactly where an infection may come from unless you've only had one partner, as some STDs can stay symptomless for a long time and may never show outward symptoms. It can destroy their business and/or reputation for no reason. STDs are unfortunately a fact of life and you can be a carrier with no symptoms. Unless you are paying them to be celibate aside from your session, there is no room to judge. And there is no shame in having one. We wouldn't go on the internet and warn people about someone who has a cold, and that can be much more debilitating than a symptomless STD. We're all adults here.

That being said, I would just say I tested positive for something and leave it at that. I had a masseur years ago text me to say he had an STD. I thought he was awesome for doing that and I was able to get tested myself. I also didn't avoid going to him in the future. You get tested and/or treated and go on.

I agree- that’s exactly why I have declined to give out his name even in PM. It is strictly hearsay and I wanted to start a conversation about what to do if/when an std is contracted.

From this discussion: I actually had someone contact me about not being able to afford treatment for an STD they currently have. I’m trying to help them get some free services.

I got an STD once from an escort. It was unsafe oral (we used condoms for anal). He was the only one I had been with in a while. I just reached out to him and let him know - didn't confront him or get mad at him. He had no idea that he was infected - and then I told him, and he had that "Ah ha" moment. I just would want to be warned myself...better to be safe. Thankfully it was a treatable STD

I’m sorry why aren’t you revealing who this is? I know it sucks for that guy and probably quite embarrassing but your lack of revelation is putting 5-6 guys a day at risk? How does that make sense .... that’s like saying I know a guy who drugs women.... but I don’t wanna tell who it is to protect him? Wtf .... maybe I’m the only one with this mentality but it seems counter to what this whole forum is about .... we share the good and we share the bad!!

Well while the OP @JD87 does seem to be baiting us a bit  with:

The massuer is in Los Angeles and FREQUENTLY discussed in this forum.

His practical answer on not disclosing a name is the right reply, it’s hearsay:

It is strictly hearsay and I wanted to start a conversation about what to do if/when an std is contracted.

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with crabs. I think I got them at a sketchy spa I used one time. During the time frame before I knew I had a problem, I had a session at my apartment with a masseur I had used often. I was embarrassed but still contacted him about my diagnosis and suggested he get checked or at least do the prevention treatment. Two weeks later he called me to tell me he was fine. He said he was not happy to get the news but thanked me for telling him. We had a number of sessions after that until I moved from the area. I feel a moral responsibility to tell anyone if I put them at risk.
