I like the idea of getting work done on my car in exchange. How do you figure out the conversion rate though? 2 hours of car service for 1 hour of time spent with the provider, etc...

Whatever the actual car bill would be and use that against the escort rate. I recently had my car worked on and the bill was $337. So if the escort rate is $200 per hour that would be a little over 1.5 hours.
