Mine did the same thing at the same age. The day I was kicked out I remember my dad reading passages out of the bible my step mom was only too happy to highlight for him. The "do not have sexual relations with another man" passage out of Leviticus. Of coarse knowing what I now know I'd take a high lighter and and show him some relevant Leviticus crap too. First and foremost. Adulterers will be put to death. Yeah, my dad met my step mom (and many others) while married to my mom.

I also remember him saying he's killed men for being gay. When he was in the navy they found a gay guy and beat him to death. His way of saying how much he hated gay men.

Same thing happened. My dad is living his life today in shame because of what he did. The extended family didn't take well to it. I guess that's Karma and all.

typical...

Your step mom would have been stoned to death because she was a slut, and your dad an adulterer.

I can't stand this "buffet" attitude of judgmental religious people, how they pick out of convenience how they behave and how others should.

It was the wonderful lifestyle they liked. They were already judgemental pricks. Now they could wave a bible at you too.

I feel really sorry for @caliguy. Obviously his parents have no idea of the meaning of love. Any parent who treats a child in that manner deserves no forgiveness. Caliguy is more understanding than me. I would have reported the confession of murder to the navy. At least that victim's family surely grieving tyhe loss of their son would have closure.

Do you know what Jesus said about homosexuality? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! No mention of it in the four Gospels. And living in the Roman Empire he had to b

Yikes. I thought religion wasn't allowed in The Lounge. Since it's okay, let me ask for your evidence that Jesus existed at all. Please site sources that do not include The Bible.

My parents made me leave my home when they found out I was gay. It's impossible to describe, that feeling of your world disappearing. Because I was so close to my family, when they abandoned me, I couldn't fall back on anyone else. Why would any of my friends be in my corner when my own parents weren't? I was lucky enough to be white and male in the south and I had my scholarships. Still, there are few things more cruel than sending your kid out of his home with no resources or support. Good job I had a friendly demeanor back then.

I was unaware of that rule. Sorry.

That's ok. I'm not sure about all the rules, either. I mean, just because they're stated right there in the forum headlines, who could possibly know what the intent of these individual subjects could be?What about Jesus' existence? Any sources outside The Bible?

I was trying to keep it in the context of the original story. It was an attempt albeit poorly done to point out the hypocrisy of some Christians who attempt to quote Bible verses in an attempt to condemn homosexuality when in fact Jesus the founder of the religion made no mention of it.

Regarding the existence of Jesus you might want to begin a thread on the topic in the religion forum.

Sad, the sex offender part is horrible. I went through a very mild version of this and I reacted far worse and ripped my folks a new one and called out their hypocrisies-but was never kicked out. Just moved out.

I chose to forgive and am ok now-people are people and make mistakes are stuck and grow. Hate just eats away your heart until you become bitter and sad and angry.

However I am not sure how I would react in this situation-kicking out someone at 18 and spreading lies about their own child that he was a sex offender-that is disgusting. I am not sure I would be able to move on.

Anyone find it odd that a "news" article is being written about an anonymous reddit article as if it's fact? I mean, it could be, or it could just be a creative writing exercise on the part of the poster.

Having served on civil suit juries, and hearing the term "preponderance of the evidence - more likely than not", I think while it is possible, it unlikely that it is mere fiction, and I think gaystarnews.org would have been motivated to check that out.

But there's no indication of checking it out, the whole article is just a rehashing of the reddit thread. I wouldn't think that appropriate for a "news" article.
