Years ago I subscribed to the Advocate magazine. My mailman was a born again Christian. He wasn't in your face but offered to share some audio tapes. So I got a rent box at the UPS store.

I have a Mormon friend (female). One day out of the blue I got a call from her bishop. He told me that it was okay to be gay.

Oh Yeah - On the Way in to Philly Gay Pride - Protesters Born=Again baggity Bigots -

At Asbury Park NJ Pride -- Curse at and Spit on by old Black Church ladies - the weirdest part was that they had FABULOUS Hats!

In the Parking lot of a Bar west of Ft Lauderdale -- Pickup trucks full of rednecks

We eventually got tired of it and set up a trap for them and trapped them btwn 4 MEGA TRUCKS -- Then we surrounded them with bats and lug wrenches == beat up their trucks -- Pulled Some of the Pissboy outta the truck beds - spit and pissed on them - pants them in the parking lot - made fun of their lil winkys - covered them in bar garbage -- etc. Plus all the verbal abuse heap onto their big egos and lil dicks --

Amazingly enough - they never bothered the bar again

At a Candle light vigil for Matthew Sheppard --

At a display of the AIDS Quilt -- When some Breeder from the crowd Rubes pulled out his dick to piss on a secti0n of the quilt --- He was Tackled in less than 5 seconds and dragged out across the asphalt while people cursed and screamed at him.

We did not win them all --- I got chased by three Bikers down A1A (Ocean Drive) During Spring Break along with two Drag Queens -- When we were out promoting Shows/Spring Break Specials -- The Cops just laughed -- We made it into the Guest Side Gate at the Marlin Beach Hotel --- We quickly raised a counter attack and the bikers Disappeared!

Yes from the religious brigade of my family. They didn't know, so the homophobia was just in general, but felt terribly guilty. I moved away, haven't really had much issues as I usually live in gay friendly areas. I did sit next to a guy in a plane-very, very hot muscle guy and he started talking-not sure if it was the alcohol- about gays should die, he hated gays, they were taking over etc. I just stopped talking-it was a long international flight. Weird, but otherwise not much.

Sometimes those hot muscle guys who hate gays... are gays themselves. They hate that part of them, even deny it.

Any photos of the hats? Apparently in the early days of Pride parades in Canada, the police worn latex gloves (AIDS panic). The parade goers apparently chanted "your shoes don't match your gloves" at the police. ;)

Someone who was like a little sister to me in high school and who I reunited with her childhood sweetheart (they later married) called me one day out of the blue and asked if I was still with "that man." I told her yes as she knew him and she responded with "God does not approve." I wished her luck in her life, hung up the phone and mourned the loss of my friend. I just learned that she died a week or two ago. I feel badly that I can't reach out to her family. A real pity!

You can reach out in writing - Whatever they do you have made the gesture to share about your OLD Friend - and express sorrow for their loss. And you have soothed yourself . . .

Sorry for your lost and your loss

Oh sure. In job interviews at least twice. They couched it in language like "our customers are very conservative and would only want meet someone who projected that image". But it was clear what they meant. :mad:I wish I could have sued. But it just didn't seem like I'd have a strong case.

I'm happy to read some of the stories hear of people who sued an won. :)

I would count that as a blessing - would never want to work for such a place.

You could have sued. Had you won, you might have been awarded back wages and a job. Would you really want to work there?

On the other hand, if I were already an employee I would pursue a discrimination complaint. However, you might not have to sue if you were an employee. A call to Employee Relations (or a similar department) might do the trick. I complained about a colleague who ran after another employee (who happened to be of a lower rank than both my colleague and me), cornered the employee in her cubicle, and proceeded to yell at her for a good five minutes. The colleague is a very large woman who physically blocked the employee from leaving her cube. The colleague was suspended for three days with the warning that the next time she would be fired. A Senior Vice President in another department was fired for unfair treatment of a gay male employee.

There are companies that take this stuff seriously.

Yes, as much as I was offended by the blatent homophobia, I didn't regret not getting offered a job. As you say, why would I want to work there?

Some employers take it seriously. Many don't. I've worked for both kinds. It's amazing what people can get away with for years and years in some places. Just look at all the scandals coming to light in Hollywood after Harvey Weinstein.

And there are still people who blame the victim. Some may think things are improving but I'm not so sure.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was drinking wine at a winery with my boss who pointed out a hot young lady serving wine to us. He was a bit in his cups and kept commenting that I should be ‘after’ that.

A co-worker speculated that my roommate who at the time was an out gay man might be satisfying my needs.

My boss’s reaction, “I don’t care who he’s fucking as long as he’s fucking!”

Uh, yes. My wife. We hadn't been intimate in over a year and I was asked about my sexuality. Granted, I had one crazy experience in the past with a man and I've watched gay porn non stop. I don't consider myself gay but, I can't stop thinking about being with a man and I am still in search of what I like in a man.
