The visions that comes first to mind are those of him in his tighty whities in Risky Business and again in Top Gun.

 

His acting abilities have always taken 2nd place to his beauty IMO. The face is one of the best on screen ever - his nose in profile can give me cardiac arrest. Too bad he's such a short little fucker.

 

But..... his current mental condition does give one pause, as evidenced by his recent TV appearances. It's a shame he doesn't believe in psychiatry as he so desperately needs it!

Admittedly.. Never a "Fan of Cruise".. There is a "Sameness" in Everything he does. His P/R People over the Years have turned him into a Big "Movie Star"... Unfortunately they cannot do anything about his "Mediocre" Acting! The Only GUY around IMHO.. who is BOTH a Movie Star AND "Actor" is Johnny Depp! Johnny Baby.. is Definitely "Maturing" Very Well. Tom on the other hand.. is most definitely Falling apart at the Seams! P.S. Johnny in HIS "Tightey Whiteys" Waaay.... HOTTER than T.C. to this Day! LOL

I absolutely agree about Depp. As an actor myself, his performance in Pirates was much more deserving of an award IMHO. I know it was a Disney film, but still, he WAS Capt. Jack Sparrow. His body of work deserves more recognition.

Hopefully there will be a Pirates 2!... J.Depp's Career going another 20 Years..I can Definitely see Happening!.. BUT IMHO.. T.Cruise's "People" have just about run out of "Publicity Angles" for his Career! Unlike A. Pacino.. who Never "Originally" counted on Looks alone, so his "Maturing Facially" (I like that phrase,very much) adds to his Characters... T.Cruise is REALLY.. a "One Trick Pony" IMHO...LOL :+

His recent interview with Matt Lauer made me think TC was a little crazy. Now he's telling a German newspaper that he believes in aliens. Here's the story:

 

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise not only battles creatures from outer space in his latest film "War of the Worlds," he also believes aliens really exist, he told a German newspaper Wednesday.

 

Asked in an interview with the tabloid daily Bild if he believed in aliens, Cruise said: "Yes, of course. Are you really so arrogant as to believe we are alone in this universe?"

 

"Millions of stars, and we're supposed to be the only living creatures? No, there are many things out there, we just don't know," Cruise, 42, said in the interview published in German.

 

Cruise's film "War of the Worlds" is based on British writer H.G. Wells' 1898 story of the invasion of Earth by Martians.

I watched TOP GUN in 2nd-run to see what all the fuss was about. After that I would only watch one of his films if the composer or cinematographer or director on the film were exceptional and worth my time (Jerry Goldsmith in LEGEND, John Williams in MINORITY REPORT). Beyond, that,

 

I will eventually see EYES WIDE SHUT because of Kubrick and WAR OF THE WORLDS to hear John Williams' music, but TC hasn't seemed like much worth my time. And don't get me started about his homophobic $100 million lawsuit....

It was filed and handled by his managers/lawyers. All of whom have since been fired. (And hey, isn't his new publicist -- his sister! -- doing a great job?)

 

As Chi Chi LaRue himself said (in public) at the time: "If he thinks Kyle Bradford has that kind of money, he's nuts!"

 

Funny how after all this time, Chi Chi LaRue is turning out to be the sane one.

You're right he did say nothing about it directly at the time. The statement, as I recall, was issued by his people.

 

In an interview not too long ago (probably before his last movie was released), he said that he's way too busy with his work, his kids, blah, blah, blah, to deal with things like that so he just says, "Go, go, GO!" to his attorneys to deal with stuff like this.

 

All that said, I'm going to disagree, and say I'm hardly going to cut slack to a multi-billionaire who claims to be at the mercy of his employees. Sounds like what Anita Loos wrote about Judy Garland, who so often complained that her maids and such would just never do what she asked.

In order to file a complaint for defamation, the plaintiff (the person who alleges he was defamed) must sign and submit with the complaint a sworn affidavit asserting that the statements complained of are both false and defamatory. Without such an affidavit the complaint would not be considered as filed.

I'm sure Cruise and his attorney, Bert Fields, never imagined that some stripper had millions of dollars. But the gravamen of the complaint was such that only a very large sum in damages could make any sense. One can't very well allege serious damage to the career of an actor who gets eight figures per film but ask for a few thousand in compensation.

It wasn't a real movie!?! I didn't know! He is a very versatile actor. He has played 3 characters in 36 different films. His range goes from confused to mildly happy. I think I like him better as a gymnast jumping on furniture.
