I know this is not a gay issue in any way, shape or form, but it is an issue of the advancement of rights and of the norms of society.

Last month a senator in the Australian Parliament, for the first time, breastfed her daughter in the Senate. Yesterday, she was again in the Senate with her child and rose to her feet to move a motion, and did so while feeding her child. The idea of a member of a legislature breastfeeding while speaking would have been unthinkable only a couple of years ago.

In another twist, when she was called on to speak to the issue that she had raised (and having finished feeding the baby) the leader of her party (the Greens) held the baby while she spoke.

Makes me think of straight guys dabbing a bit of jam on their lactating wife's tits for a little taste of strawberries and cream. Never could get anyone to admit to it but I know damned well some of those heteros have gotta be doing it. Even if straights are too unimaginative to have thought of it, some of those guys I canvassed about it probably went straight home and tried to get their wif preggers.

Mike, maybe you could FaceBook your MP and ask her how common it is? Maybe that's why she breast feeds. Heck, maybe her daughter has learned to like the taste of jam too!

I do not find it distasteful really, except it is supposed to be a business atmosphere. She could have breastfed and then done the business of the state or vice versa. She could have brought the child and had it there as a child-at-work-day. However whatever the voters think appropriate is appropriate.
