James Ivory Wins Writers Guild of America Award for

___Best Adapted Screenplay, ‘Call Me By Your Name’

Nice, but I’m more impressed with Jordan Peele for original screenplay — “Get Out.” What an inventive, sassy, insightful piece of screenwriting! (I’d give it Best Picture, too.)

Thank you TruHart1. What a great acceptance speech. Someone that has read the screenplay noticed how the film does not track certain aspects of the screenplay which makes me wonder if these screenplay awards are based on the final outcome. I expect they are.

Since Ivory mentioned Andre Aciman, I'll share that he is on a book signing tour for CMBYN as well as his latest book. https://us.macmillan.com/tour?isbn=9781250169440

Spend An Evening With Armie & Timothée

Love the campaign. Very disappointed they did not cap donations at $100 for 2000 entries. With all the "make a bigger impact" choices, wealthy people will stand a MUCH better chance at winning this prize. Clearly the charities are shooting for the bigger bucks, and I suppose why not go for the greed. Perhaps less people will consider the under $100 choices when they think about their chances. I question whether this was smart marketing, since most of the true fans of this film can't afford to make a $5,000 donation.

@ BAFTA tonight in London

winner for ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME James Ivory

Here is James Ivory's acceptance speech for the BAFTA. Short and sweet again with thanks to Guadagnino and the actors. Note that Ivory is sitting with Helena Bonham Carter (his plus one?) and that as he walks to the stage he turns to Timothée, who then helps him up the steps:

Helena Bonham Carter has some very interesting comments on one of my DVDs, either Maurice or possibly Room With a View. But I digress!

For OutFest members that can't quite let go, Timothee Chalamet will do a Q&A tomorrow night in Beverly Hills at the Laemmle after a 7:30pm screening. Not sure if open to public, but call the theater to ask. Also, this Friday Andre Aciman will discuss the book at the WEHO Public Library. Here is his latest book signing tour, discussing both CMBYN and Enigma Variations. Both books deal with bisexual feelings, coming of age, and onward.

I personally do not believe it to be possible this year as there are just too many "mainstream" films

________nominated, but here is an interesting article from the Guardian in Britain:

Why Call Me By Your Name should win the 2018 best picture Oscar

Since it hadn’t played at a theater within 150 miles before I left and also hasn’t hit my part of the Orient yet and comes out on BluRay about the time I return, I guess I’ll be watching CMBYN in the solitude of my livingroom. I wonder which streaming service will get it. Of course I could watch most of it today by parsing the many clips on YouTube.

I must confess that since CMBYN was very late opening in my city, (January 20!) I not only read Mr. Aciman's poetic prose-filled novel, (absolutely beautiful in itself, yet even more beautiful in the audio version with Mr. Hammer's deep honeyed voice narrating, to which I also listened before the film opened here!) but also watched multiple clips of scenes and film festival panels on YouTube myself. I think I got an idea of the screenplay's arc and also the feel of each of the characters portrayed by each actor before I finally got to experience the film itself.

I was a bit worried that I may have "spoiled" my viewing of the actual film by the time I finally got to see it. Yet, my first viewing of the complete final cut of CMBYN was more of an extremely satisfactory experience of my thinking, "Oh, so this particular scene follows that one." with the small connecting sequences which had never been posted on YouTube making the complete puzzle come together for me in a most satisfying way. In other words my anticipatory watching of the individual excerpts posted on YouTube only made seeing the complete edited film as the unique achievement in cinematic history it is!

Now, after seeing the entire film four times in the theatre so far, I continue to notice new small touches of pure genius in the screenplay, acting, and cinematography each time I see it, making my respect for all involved in CMBYN increase with every viewing of the movie!

I have also read and re-read the book, seen the movie a number of times :p and own the audiobook which is a must have. Now I'm just left with ordering the bluRay.

I noticed the box office take continues to rise. Curious that no numbers for France and Germany are listed.

Didn't get to see Aciman tonight in West Hollywood. Sad!

But here is an interesting Aciman interview about CMBYN. http://radioopensource.org/call-andre-aciman/#

I've found some interesting discussion about the Aciman event In Weho last Friday and also read on Facebook the crowd was very large, that many could not get in. Such is life in Calfornia.

Aciman will be in San Diego on Thursday. La Jolla I believe. Tempted!
