Last night, I responded to an ad. And the other guy followed up with

"Don't ghost on me." I wrote back I didnt know what that means...

apparently the inaction, non-text of no reply, no follow-up, no further contact or communication - the disappearance- is so prevalent, it's earned the label ghost.

That is correct. It is a prevalent behavior spreading everywhere, it is not limited to this business or the gay subculture. You can google it, there are articles written about it.

I started this thread yesterday. I guess I jinxed myself.

Started with one outreach last night, three more since this morning. ..

Recap: I asked if avail. They said yes. I asked a question or two. They answered to my satisfaction. I said I'm interested. Three never answered. One said he's booked, I asked when we could schedule, he disappeared.

All started on email, three progressed to text.

One scort M4RN. One masseurfinder. One CL masseur. One CL non $$$.

The same has happened to me multiple times!

I knew about the prevalence across all segments. Didn't know it had been termed ghosting.

Still find it both inconsiderate and frustrating.

I know. We are old timers, but I am adapting and learning to move on. I am even ghosting others.

I find specially annoying the guys in hook up apps who would hit you and get upset because you do not respond or you stop responding. I block those.

Hmm.. that describes me in hookup apps- sometimes. I never get upset, and don't do it after just one exchange or round of messages. But if there's been substantive interaction....

Sunday, I had a guy interested. Several back & forths, then nothing. Then Sunday night, an apology that he got involved with family, mothers day, he was still interested. But then never replied to further communication attempts.

It's the ones that go beyond super-minimal/casual and then ghost, that get me.

My rules for playing around on hookup aps:

(1) Keep expectations very low; and

(2) If you can't take the heat in the kitchen . . ..

Earlier today, I filled out the message form on rentmasseur. He replied immediately. I wanted appt tomorrow. He's leaving tomorrow for weekend. I tried to set up appt for his return.... Upon learning I didnt want today.... he ghosted.

It's not just about civility and frustration. Bad business. I won't contact him again.

One thing about getting older and gaining some rentXxxx experience..... i no longer let my crotch rule my decisions

My expectations couldn't be lower.

The kitchen.... I can handle the heat most of the time.... it's only when they crank it up with lots interest, then shut it off abruptly, I have a challenge handling it. But its prudent advice.... and why i churned through and no longer use grindr, scruff, Growlr, or other apps.

To stop using the rentXxxx sites, is to eliminate the possibilities of engaging paid entertainment.

If a pro doesn't respond on rentmen, then I forget about him. I used to feel a touch of vindictiveness in doing this, but it's pretty easy to just put him out of my mind.
