Alright today I received two emails from people from AOL. One from the board here and another I am not sure where. If you have an AOL account and email and escort please make sure to unblock our email address. This might be one reason and this is only a guess some of you who email us with AOL accounts are not getting replies because you haven't unblocked our email addresses or whatever you need to do to recieve emails from us. Just my two cents worth and a friendly reminder.

Hugs,

Greg

P.S. This also goes for escorts who are still using AOL.

All the AOL member has to do is once a day check their spam folder and all E mails that AOL sent their as spam will be in there. All we got to do then is open it ;)

When in doubt I whip it out :+

I personally enjoy what they do to the spam and if I want to look at it I go check, many other servers/services/providers do the same. I am not sure what all this Hoolabulu about AOL is HUGS Chuck

Assuming, of course, that they've set up AOL to accept mail from non-AOL addresses and they know the junk mail folder is even there. :-(

This is one area where AOL expects newbies to know entirely too much about the internet, while not telling them they need to know it.

The hoopla is it is frustrating when an AOL user emails me expecting a reply and the mail is sent back to me. Some of you don't like it when an escort might not reply but for myself I don't like it when I take the time to reply and it gets sent back to me as undeliverable. Make sence?

Greg

I think people will have a problem with what they dont understand. I take the time to understand AOL and like it. I don't feel that it get's a good rap cause a few don't like or take the time to understand. I came remember one time send some pics to Hooboy on my AOL you got pictures and it enables you to add your commenents or names or person or whatever you want. He loved and said he didn't know there were those type of albums availble that could do that. I told him it was from AOL . I already knew what he thought. So learn about what it can and can't do for you its like anything else. Just like this board to the average newbie it has not always been easy. Or the ohter computer systems or programs we work with. You have to take the time to learn about it. Garbage in Garbage out if you dont. HUGS Chuck

I accept ALL mail on my AOL account and NEVER have a problem with anyone saying their mail is bouncing. I also give escorts my cell phone when making initial contact, so when I hear NOTHING back either by email or phone then I know what kind of business person they are and won't bother any longer. Sorry Greg but you are not the norm in your business, but the exception as far as responding. Over half, easily, never bother or wait 4 or 5 days to resond to email OR phone messages. Their lose, not mine.

I'm adding my two cents into all the comments about AOL. I totally agree with the positive comments about AOL. Are they perfect? Certainly not. But I'd have to say they are about the best. I've tried several providers, and even though I now have cable access (with their own provider services) I still keep AOL. I have not yet found any provider that provides all the features and services that AOL provides.

Greg,

If an AOL user gets mail in the spam folder which is valid mail, all he has to do is add the mail address to the Address Book. It won't go to the spam folder again. As far as I know, mail that makes it to the spam folder never bounces back to the sender.

In your case, it may just be the users in question are inadvertently blocking non-AOL e-mail. The setting is easy enough to change. All they have to do is go into Settings -> Mail and Spam Controls and adjust the setting not to restrict mail to AOL users. They can allow all users, or set a customized list.

There is another problem which I have experienced that may not apply to you. A few times, big companies like Dell Computer were getting mail bounced back to them due to an AOL server problem. They had to resend the mail to an alternate site and contact AOL about the problem.

Hope this helps.

Generally, I love aol, too. One related problem to be aware of. I used to have an email name from my website - [email protected] . However, when people sent me spam at that address and it was forwarded to my aol address, it kept its label as having been sent by the other people. There was no way to see that it had been sent to that address and then forwarded. (Maybe it was a pop3? I really don't know computers well at all.) When I deleted it while it was labeled as spam, however, aol somehow picked up on it having been sent from [email protected] and finally the persistent spamming from that address made it so that they provider I had that service through cancelled that part of that service. Of course, you can work around this, but just be aware that it's there.

AOL has become like a "pay for portal." They make it simple to find a lot very fast. There email is ok but many users block non AOL email and that becomes a problem for the escorts or others who want to contact AOL members who are not on the service.

I like parts of AOL but to use AOL to access the Internet is not a realistic option. Anyone doing so is missing a chunk of cyberspace.

Isn't this blocking still the default? IOW, you have to explicitly turn it off.

That's the part that screws up escort emails.

No, it isn't by default (well at least not when I tried AOL a few months ago). I'm not on AOL now but I never blocked or unblocked any email for that matter I didn't change any email settings and received email from members and non-members.

Deej, thaks for the info on skype in the other thread.

I am the Netscape Guy ;)

As posted on a different forum, "most" AOL account will not accept emails with URL links and emails with certain words. I have to experiment with my emails couple times so that when I send to AOL they will not be bounced back.

Posted

That is TOTALLY and COMPLETELY up to the individual AOL user. My spam controls are set to "capture" any email that contains certain words in the RE line. Like viagra, meds etc. I also have no problem getting email with URL's but may have to click on the email once open to get the URL's to show. If a client emails an escort and the escort simply hits reply, then I can't imagine having any problems. It seems that everyone likes to blame AOL for any problems they have, but in all reality AOL gives its users great service and variety in setting up their accounts.
