I'm sorry - I can't seem to fix them. They are of my miniature Schnauzer, Shadow, who died this morning.

Hard to "like " a post like this. It just means I appreciate you including the forum in on a sad and wrenching loss. I'm glad you shared and am so very sorry for your loss.

One of the hardest things to deal with in life. I'm sure you've heard the "Rainbow Bridge" story (as mentioned above). If you haven't Google it. It's always given me hope.

Thank you all for your thoughtful and compassionate sentiments. Shadow was aptly named, both for his coloring (charcoal and silver) and that he followed me everywhere. My boy was with me for ten and a half years, traveling with me each year to Palm Springs. He loved people (especially my two daughters) and other dogs.

I keep feeling that I’m forgetting to do something.

Thank you again. I continue to be amazed by the people here! Bless you.

Now I see the picture of your Shadow, he was adorable!

I've cried more for dogs than I've cried for people. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with someone as caring as you!

All of my doggies in the past 43 years have had wonderful lives and have given me their all - love, companionship, smiles, kisses, wagging tails, sheepish grins, and a few growls when I screw up. And it's true, I miss them all (excluding my 16 year old) much more than most of my family members.

More than once, my friends have called me a wonderful doggie-daddy. And perhaps a daddy of another kind, too.

I can't think of what you are forgetting. Seems like you're beginning the grieving process very effectively.

My parents lost their beloved pug after 10+ years. They attended a support group for those experiencing similar grief. Subsequently they rescued a needy pug on which they can redirect their love. Lucky for all concerned. But a replacement doesn't take the place of the original loss. They will never love their original dog any less. I'm just sharing another personal story.

Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Shadow was a great companion and indeed the life of the party. I'd guess he got that from his papa!

This coming weekend I propose we have a toast to Shadow. He was a special pup.

So sorry to hear of your loss. The gift that Shadow gave you -- happiness, companionship, unconditional love -- those will never leave you. They are yours to treasure forever.
