I am planning a trip to Hawaii, I have way to much vacation time accrued, and its getting to the use it or loose it stage.

Im looking for an all inclusive hotel/resort/etc, preferably gay friendly.. and perhaps escort friendly :D though i dont remember seeing alot of options for hawaii.. unless TB is passing through :D

I believe Bryan Knight might be passing thru there (Honolulu?) around this time or so.

If so, you will be a lucky man!

Im still narrowing down when I will go. I was planning for May, but a coworker is going on vacation at that time, and 2 supervisors cant be out at the same time. :( so i am thinking June... but dont want to go when all the kids are there for summer vacation. :(

I've been to Hawaii a lot, but not on a "out" basis, and have been to Maui a lot. The Sunseeker is very close to the beach, and not touristy. Not in the thick of "resorts", which is the charm of Kihei. A lot of locals, but a nice mix of visitors renting condos. Close to grocery stores (Star Market, Foodland) and Long's drugstore to buy essentials for times you don't want to go out, and just chill at the beach.

I don't know of any "all inclusive" resorts (i.e. drinks and food included) in Hawaii, but if you are inclined to spend some money, resorts in Wailea (south of Kihei) are beautiful. I would recommend them rather than the Kaanapali resorts). However, they are all high end. Four Seasons (my favorite), Kea Lani, and Grand Wailea will set you back some bucks, but occasionally you will find rooms for slightly less than $400 a night. Not cheap at all, and many (except the Four Seasons) will charge an extra "resort fee". The Andaz is newer (to me), so don't know much about it.

Maui is my favorite place on earth. If you go there, enjoy. However, I have very fond memories of the Moana in Honolulu (when it was separate from the Surfrider), and after it was combined. Whenever I go to Honolulu, I stay at one of the Sheratons so I can stop at the Banyan Bar by the pool at the Moana-Surfrider.

some news from last fall on changes at the Sunseeker:

and the new website:

and these seem to be decent write-ups on Little Beach, way down past Wailea....first one includes a bit of info on the "gay" part of the beach:

Yes, the Moana Surfrider is gorgeous! When I travel to Honolulu, I stay in a condo right downtown. I prefer having two separate bedrooms and a kitchen, rather than staying in a hotel. The entire island is gorgeous especially the North Shore and Kailua.

I've been to the Andaz Maui a couple of times since it's opened: Beautiful property, but not in the same league as the Four Seasons, Ritz or Waldorf.

While none of these are the all-inclusive that the OP wants, they are good options. My pick would be the Four Seasons in Wailea. Also, make sure to save time to stop into Mama's Fish House (North Shore), Tin Roof (in Kahului) and Star Noodle (Lahaina). Great food.

I agree. Beautiful property. Every so often I recognize pics in an escort ad taken there.

If I remember correctly, it was a Stoeffer's, then a Intercontinental (I think that was when I first was there), maybe something else, then a confusing set of names of Marriott, Outrigger, Marriott-Outrigger, then it was supposed to be converted to some sort of vacation or fractional ownership (not sure) that cause lawsuits and the property to close and sit empty for years. I guess the lawsuit dust had finally settled when Hyatt came along and made it the Andaz.

yes, back in the late 1970s, when the Wailea area was first developed from raw land, what is now Andaz was a Stouffer's....with the Intercontinental just south of it......(my family made a trip to Wailea back then when those were the only two hotels in the area and I haven't been back since - I know I wouldn't recognize the area now)......the Intercontinental is now the Marriott Wailea.......

  • 2 weeks later...

As already mentioned, the Maui Sunseeker changed owners. The property and staff are the same, but the adult-only element (clothing optional sundeck, pool, hot tub) is gone. But there are couples who still book there thinking it's the Sunseeker. I stayed there twice a few years ago and loved it. Sad to see it's gone.

Maui doesn't really have a big gay scene; most of the islands don't. But Little Beach (near Wailea) is a must! Be naked and see all the hot guys! You'll always find horny locals in Kihei, Wailuku, and Kahului. Lahaina/Kaanapali are dreadful to me, but only because of the tourist factor.

I go to the Islands a few times a year. If you want more a gay scene, you should probably go to Honolulu/Waikiki, though I don't personally like it there (too crowded and touristy). I wouldn't recommend staying in a resort or hotel if you plan to bring back escorts. It's just the wrong scene. You might consider renting a condo through AirBnB instead. The prices are better and you can get an entire place to yourself without the judging eyes.

But if you want to stay in a hotel in Waikiki, I'd recommend the Halekulani, Moana Surfrider, and Royal Hawaiian (but you gotta like the color pink to stay here!).
