RentMen and "availability" question

I've been meaning to ask for awhile: if you, as an escort, are on RentMen, when do you mark your profile as "Available?" And if your ad is marked as "Currently Online," what exactly does that mean? (I've seen escorts that are almost always marked as online, but they're not answering the phone).

 

Also, more often than not, even with "Available" escorts, I often end up going to voice mail. Do most escorts actually check their voice mail? A lot of them just seem to ignore my calls/texts/emails, even if they're supposedly available.

I mark my profile as available generally when I'm either A) Actually available or B) available within the 6 hour time window that I post. That way I can ask for an hour or agree to meet at a later point. "Available" to me doesn't mean ready to drop everything that I'm doing and run to the nearest client, but that I'm actively looking for clients

Unfortunately, the 'Available' option doesn't really mean what it implies, in my experience. Rentmen's advice is to list yourself as 'available' as often as possible, and to log into the site multiple times per day (that's where the "currently online" bit comes in). What you end up with is people using it as a promotional tool to keep their ads at the top of the listings, and not necessarily an indicator of when they're 'ready to go,' as it were.

 

I make a point to return any messages I receive, whether I'm available or not, except when I'm asleep. And everyone has a different preference with calls/texts/emails. Text or email is always going to get my attention more quickly than a call or voicemail. I'm not a 'talking on the phone' guy, and more often than not can't talk because I'm in mixed company or public. But I can almost always sneak a text to a new friend.

 

I say, if you're not getting texts returned, move on and don't waste your time with people who are so disrespectful.

Available now, to me, means what @BodeBrentwood stated - I'm available. Perhaps not to drop everything right that second and show up at your door in 2 minutes, but within an hour-ish or, at the very least, during the window of time I have set my status to "available." For example, I might have some errands to run or a plan to hit the gym, but I know I've got about 4 hours with no other major plans - I put myself online for 4 hours, and go about my day. If someone were to contact me while I was at the gym, I could easily coordinate a time to see them in about an hour, or I might move my gym time and go see the client. Like @tylerthebadwolf says, I'm sure some guys go online and set their status to available, even if they are not, to increase awareness of their existence.

 

You mentioned that you sometimes call and go right to voicemail, even if the guy says he's available. There could be many, many reasons for this - he's in public, he's checking out at the grocery store, he's in the bathroom, he's on the subway, he's at the gym, he's on the other line, he put his phone on silent, he stepped away from his phone to go into the other room. PLEASE be the kind of guy who lives a polite message with your name and a request to be called back (or text, or smoke signals - whatever you prefer). I can personally say that I rarely answer the phone when it rings for a few reasons. Often, I am in public or underground on the subway, and that's not a venue where I want to be picking up the phone. Also, as many of us do, I have a separate number for my clients, but that number rings my phone without any distinction so I don't know - unless I pick up - what the call might be. As I recently did some new website work, I'm getting bombarded with calls from IT companies that want to "work" with me. I'm currently getting 10+ calls a day from telephone numbers that I don't recognize, and I simply don't have any way to distinguish whether it's a telemarketer or a new friend and I have grown tired of answering calls that are automated attempts to sell me things.

 

My suggestion for anyone who wants to get on the phone with an escort is either call and be willing to leave a message (and for the love, don't keep calling without leaving messages) OR text or email the guy first and find out when is a good time to talk.

I thought people only texted nowadays, I'm glad to hear someone else likes to talk on the phone for a couple of minutes to get a feeling.

 

Maybe the escorts don't pick up the phone because they are busy with a client, at the metro (no connection), on the phone with someone else or unable to pick up the phone for other reasons. I would just leave a voicemail or text message and wait for them to call/text me back. RM allows guys to click they're available for 6 hours, most escorts are constantly "available" but that doesn't mean they don't have a life and are doing other things. Besides escorts must click "available" to go up on the list and be on the first page for as long as possible.

 

@DrownedBoy do they finally call you back? If they don't I would just move on and hire someone else.

Actually, I would rather text than call the escorts. It is easier for me since I don't speak English very well.

I very rarely mark myself as available on RM. But that's just me. I'm not available most of the time to be honest. I work full-time and going to school part-time, so my availability is quite limited. More often than not, maybe 95% of the time, I'm not in a position to answer a phone call. I usually respond best to emails or texts because I'm usually sitting at a computer, or have my phone near me and can respond that way - except during normal business hours when I'm at work.

 

The rare times I do mark myself as available on RM is when I’m definitely 100% available. Sometimes when I am available, however, I don’t bother logging in and marking myself. I also book nearly all of my clients in advance and rarely see a client “right now.” Admittedly, I’m hard to pin down (no pun intended), but if someone is interested in seeing me, they’re more likely to be successful when they ask me “when are you free?” as opposed to “are you free right now?”

 

The anticipation of meeting is also fun. I like scheduling a session at least two days in advance and spending the time between flirting, or chit chatting via text, having a conversation or two on the phone beforehand, etc. It helps break the ice and provides the foundation for a more intimate encounter.
