Millennials as masseurs?

It occurred to me after yet another unacceptably poor massage from someone in their 20s, that perhaps the problems business people report with managing millennials are showing up the masseur pool. A "Cam Can Syndrome", of sorts resulting from a generation given "participation awards."

I've been getting massages in NYC for twenty years (since I was in my 20s) and have really noticed a change recently: very high fees, poor skills, aloof attitude, heavy on the up sell, shorting the time.

Thoughts? Has anyone else noticed this?

"The Earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book [wants to be rich or famous], and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching"

-Found written on an Assyrian tablet around 2000 BC.

Since time immemorial, older generations have complained about younger generations.

To help myself manage this, I now try to not blame a generation, instead I try to blame lack of experience. :)

That's very generous, True. However, instead of (not) blaming the millennial for providing less than is expected or blaming for lack of experience, might we consider blaming the folks who raised the (clueless but blameless) millennials and allowed this state of affairs to happen? Now it seems everyone is basking in great self esteem but no skills. Participation is great, but there is something to be said for excellence.

By the way, I didn't know that anything in English was found on Assyrian tablet from 2000 BCE.

As long as there is someone to blame, we should all be good, eh? ;)

Lol, my Assyrian sucks...thank the gods for google translate. :p

Kidding aside, I'm hoping whatever expert translated that tablet that his skill was greater than his self-esteem.

I hadn't really thought about the age question. I don't think I've ever really hired a masseur under 30. I've hired some escorts under 30 and the results have been mixed. But with a masseur I do usually look for someone with (or at least who claims) experience.

In the last few years, I have definitely noticed the rise in prices, attitude, and level of distraction. I am all for giving everyone a chance but there is a breakeven point where it isn't worth it to spend over $100 and not get the massage skill you pay for plus be disappointed. I've got a list of those who consistently deliver and more and more I'm sticking with those rather than trying new guys (unless they get really well vetted on this site.).

I think we all need to admit that on the gay massage sites that we are all not looking JUST for a great massage. The majority of us are looking for someone hot and good looking who turns us on to massage us.....who does a good massage.....hopefully with extras. So we are looking for a number of things in a masseur.....as opposed to someone who JUST wants a good massage who would just go to Massage Envy or the local place in our town that does strictly therapeutic massage....and pay $65/hr.....and not care what that person looked like....if they were male or female or weighed 300 lbs......we would JUST want a good massage at those places. If you read thru the massage forum here on this site the majority of posts are on appearance and if there is any extra action. Yes, skill is mentioned.....but the hotness of the masseur seems to be the draw....and the extras.....or else we would just all be going to Massage Envy. With that being said......I think we can all agree that the HOT and YOUNGER masseurs are the ones that are charging the most. (seriously...$170/hr? I saw that last week! Hot and Young of course!) I can't blame them....they all have a shelf life and need to make $ while they can. I will end by saying we can not just blame a bad massage on age.....I have had some GREAT experiences from 20 somethings......great massage, attitude, polite, well mannered and lots of fun with great massage skills etc.......so we can't generalize......I have had good and bad experiences with all ages of masseurs.....did not have anything to do with age......just had to do with the masseur and how professional they were.

And, as I’ve mentioned previously, see if there’s a local massage therapy school in your city. If so most accept clients from the public for their students to practice on. Check their website. Cost is typically very reasonable. I’ve done this quite a few times. I’ve never had a “bad” massage but some have definitely been better than others. Some have even been exceptional. It will all be about technique. Don’t expect anything even remotely intimate. Some are reluctant to work your derrière but the odds increase if you leave your shorts on.

A professional masseur / masseuse should be comfortable with you being naked. Even at the massage therapy schools I typically get naked. If it is a female masseuse I sometimes leave my shorts on. In all cases your private area will remain covered by a sheet that is carefully draped and tucked in.

I have been more curious about younger masseurs of late, and this is a wonderful and timely topic for me. Most of the time I have preferred guys over 30, but am drawn to some of the handsomer younger group but always with great caution and never taken the plunge. Much food for thought expressed here and another reason why this is such a great forum. I don't really have experience with the younger fellows to share.

Which brings up a question I have: if I am going for what is advertised as a "healing" massage (I guess that means therapeutic), have undressed should I be? DO I keep my shorts on? Really - what is the consensus?

For me, the answer is "it depends." In the US, if the healing massage is being provided in a spa or an individually-owned studio, I always keep my undies on and then ask the masseur: " would you prefer me fully nude?" I ask the same question when I host a healing masseur at my hotel. In most of Europe, Asia and South America, typically the expectation is that you are fully nude - so I do as the Romans do. Regardless of location, if this is truly a healing (therapeutic) massage, there will be lots of draping involved where the masseur ensures your junk is not exposed. I've never had a healing masseur touch my junk - but we have exchanged numbers after the session ;)
