How could anyone fail to notice the general preponderance of perfect teeth these days? Between veneers, bleaching, and orthodontia for nearly everyone, anyone with the cash can achive a perfect smile.

I have a a very bad smile and have been considering getting some work done. Any thoughts...

All it takes is cash-and the patience to sit through a few dental appointments.

My teeth are crooked so I have a feeling that it will be more long term than a few appointments.

If you can afford it, veneers can make a remarkable difference with just a few visits. I had somewhat crooked teeth that got noticeably worse as I got older. I had veneers put on the upper and lower front and it made a remarkable difference. They are not perfect and they are not "Anna Nicole" unnaturally white. I had a great dentist and we discussed making them look like I probably wore braces as a kid but nothing crazy unnatural. I have never had a single person ask me if I've had work done.

Mine was done in three visits. Once to have a mold made of my current teeth that my dentist used to sculpt the new look. The second visit is not fun. They grind those suckers down to nothing but nubs to hold the caps. However, I was sedated and I woke up to a brand new smile with temporary veneers. One more visit to have the temporary caps removed and the permanent ones put in place.

That was ten years ago and I've never regretted it for a minute.

if the shape of your teeth is fine, consider whitening. start with an in-office treatment DONE BY A DENTIST followed by custom made trays home sessions. Or get laminates, which are ultra thin veneers on the front of you teeth. Laminates are so thin they leave your teeth intact.

most laminates look toothy to me

crowns, crowneers, veneer all seem to work better but it's more commitment

That must be why all those people on "Radical Makeover" had that look. "Toothy" is the perfect way to describe it.

@jimboivyo yes you are right, some laminates look toothy. But there are some ultra thin ones, thin as a contact lens. A friend of mine has them, he is very happy. Other friends have composite (non porcelain veneers) they are very happy also. Just be aware that composite veneers require some maintenance. I chose whitening because I had no issues with the shape of my teeth. I got excellent results and do a retouch every 6 months after my usual dental cleaning. The trend is minimum invasive and more natural results. So that others to think you have a natural bright smile, not that you have veneers... Not the "radical makeover" look @Rudynate mentions.

Actually, it looks more like correction fluid.

A hygienist told me that's what happens when people overdo the bleaching. The teeth become too white and acquire a chalky appearance.
