When I searched Google for the meaning of the sideways peace sign most results indicated it meant the same as a regular peace sign.

It sometimes depends on where you see the ad. On Backpage, two fingers mean $200.00 is their asking rate.

 

I suppose it could mean other things on different sites. However, I assume if you saw the ad on a site other than Backpage, it still means $200.00

it's losing its effectiveness. It used to be an unusual thing, and as such, a way to confirm that it was a real and recent picture. With more and more people asking for them, it loses that unusual quality.

Most camera's have a date and time function built in. Seems that would be the easiest way.

That date time stamp can be photoshopped by even the most novice of computer users - definitely not an effective method of verifying identity.

Yeah, if someone leaves it on that condemns the photo to a certain shelf life so I can see why many would to turn it off to begin with. Who wants to have to take new photo's say every six months. 6 years now were talking.
