RE: vacationing in Rio

>That's a terrific suggestion. >

Also, Americans don't need a visa for Argentina (which saves you $100 or more, compared to Brazil) so you can just hop on a plane and go, as long as you have a passport. If you don't have a passport yet, apply now. Don't delay, as it can take a while to get one, especially if it's your first passport.

Of course, Argentina doesn't have the sauna scene like Brazil, and the guys expect more than do the guys in Brazil. So it probably all balances out, over all.

I've gotten these mixed up myself before, but I believe you're thinking of Emily Litella.

The Brazilian saunas have a great variety of boys. All body types can be found. Muscle men, “natural” bodies and thin twinkie-type boys are all available in the Rio saunas.

RE: vacationing in Rio

For your spring vacation, I'd suggest Rio; you'd definitely fare well by being able to speak Spanish. Unfortunately, I don't speak that language or any other foreign language. During the times that I was in Brasil (Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador, and smaller towns), if I couldn't converse in Brasilian Portuguese-- the next question would be: do you speak Espanol, Francois, etc.; my only response was no (and with a smile).

Try to arrange your ticket through a discounter: brol.com or yestravel.net-- both in Miami. I've used both for my tickets.

When I went to RIo for Carnaval in 2003 for eleven days, my friend and I purchased a package to get the low fare of $545 or $575 and stayed at The Atlantico (which was not part of the package) and extended our stay beyond the days which were part of the package.

Also, in conjunction with culture, I'd give San Francisco or Los Angeles five stars. Vegas wouldn't be bad now for this since it's trying to become a mini, mini NYC by having Broadway-type shows and four Cirque Sole type venues...

(You have a big decision to make. (I wouldn't rule out Chicago either; I went there during the spring of 2003 (solo) and had a wonderful time.) :-)

at this point, it appears that I will be choosing from either a return visit to montreal, or a first time trip to ft. lauderdale. Still checking out the details for both.. thanks to everyone for the help so far..

It had occured to me as well that you might want to revisit Montreal. The weather in April is iffy but can be pleasantly warm if luck is on your side (or it could still be snowing!). In any event, it will not be bone-chilling cold and the days are quite long long by then.

One thing you will want to take into account is the exchange rate which has shifted quite a bit against your favor since last year. This is true, however, for whichever foreign destination you choose since the greenback has generally gone down against most foreign currencies. That being said, any Canadian destination is still cheaper than most American cities (major ones)and Montreal cheaper than most other Canadian cities.

I agree with Onefinger. San Antonio is beautiful. The home of Benjamin Nicholas and Vincent Michael. Have been there twice and thoroughly enjoyed myself both times.

FYI, Laguna Beach is not a gay part of town. It's actually a very conservative environment to live in. A lot of young families have moved into this city over the last ten years. It's still a fantastic city to live in and offcourse as a tourist there are endless places to visit in Laguna. Now Laguna has a bit of exposure thanks in part to the MTV show which is filmed in Laguna. The best aspect about Laguna besides the restaurants, museums and some eye candy. If one likes to drive, Pacific Coast Highway is perfect. At times for me it feels very surreal, especially in the summertime when I'm driving down Pacific Coast Highway coming from Newport Beach heading towards Broadway Avenue in downtown Laguna, cos at times I realise how close Iam driving by the blue crystal clear water known as the Pacific Ocean.

Huntington Beach is still considered more gay friendly than in previous years. You're absolutely right about the eye candy. Huntington is the only gay friendly city in Orange County. There are some gay bars, but they close early because of the city ordinance. There are a lot of young people live in Huntingon. It has a reputation as a party city nowadays. The In terms of eye candy, as pointed out Main Street and I'd also throw Warner Avenue and Edinger Avenue. Besides Huntington I'd throw in Capistrano Beach, Corona Del Mar, San Juan Capistrano and Dove Canyon, to name a few.

If one visits California, Santa Cruz has lots of eye candy and I'd throw in Napa Valley as a great place to visit for wine tasting.
