Does anyone have an 8mm camcorder or 8mm VCR that I could borrow for a couple of days? I used to have an 8mm camcorder and didn't really use it that much before it broke...but before it broke, I made some tapes of my family, some of whom have recently passed away. I really want to see those tapes now.

The 8mm format was discontinued and the VCR's go for a few hundred dollars on ebay. Even though I'll only use it for a day or two to dub the old tapes onto DVD's, I bought one last week and it just arrived, but the seller lied and it's broken, so now I have to file a claim with ebay and start all over again.

So...before I buy another one from ebay or craigslist, I thought I'd see if anyone here has one that I can borrow. Thanks!

Rick, I can't believe I had Olympus 8mm camcorder that I hadn't used in about 10 years and just this Xmas gave it to a neighbors grandaughter who is interested in film. Sorry!! There must be some studios in NY that have players available or Libraries? Best of Luck.

I dont know what an 8mm camera is...I saw the movie "8mm" but I still dont know what the camera woulkd look like.

I have a new video camera but I dont think thats what you need

I also have one of the older conversion things that you put in a tape and it makes it playable on VCR...I bought it in 1996 when I got my first camcorder...could it be an 8mm coverter ? The tape it converts is about the size of a cigarette box but a bit thicker...is this 8mm ?

Damn, I feel like an ignorant dick !!

I don't have any video equipment available. However the presenting issue here is a good idea-- Hoobay!!! Perhaps another forum can be set up for buying/selling/trading things?;)

Peace,

That movie was about 8mm film, not video (and it was creepy, wasn't it?)

No, that's for VHS-C ("C" for compact). But thanks anyway! :)

And flguy...oh well, I have bad timing sometimes (thank god not sexually).

Damn !!! The only other thing I might be able to suggest is that you have a video store transfer them to VHS or DVD. You probably thought of that already, and doing it yourself is cheaper, but where I live its really pretty cheap to do.

And yup, 8mm freaked the shit out of me !!! To top it off, I saw it alone when I was in Mexico (Acapulco)...I was also vacationing alone and had to sleep in the hotel room by myself !! The worst part was I drank a Coke that had ice in it and I got Montezuma's (sp?) Revenge that evening...it was the most painful thing I ever felt...like knives in my stomach...I will go no further, but ya know I could :-)

Hey Rick,

I have an old Sony 8mm camera and I have a Sony 8mm portable VCR with a built-in TV that you could actually watch on. Let me know how you want to work out the details.

Yes, some of us do know, and I am thankful that you used a little self-restraint this time. :* (thanks for trying to help, too)

Hey Rick..I have been having the same problem..

My Sony 8mm is broken and I have quite a few tapes that I can no longer enjoy...including some of my dead grandmother too. I called some of those electronic places in the NY papers that have everything for "cheap" and they claim they have them ..brand new..but just old models. At this point I am willing to buy a new one so I could transfer those tapes to a DVD. I also have the VHS-C and the adapter which is better. My next is direct onto DVD..

Good Luck ..Keep me informed
