The December issue of Los Angeles magazine(10 best neighborhoods on the cover) has a story about the Hollywood vice squad of the LAPD. Although it mostly deals with female and transgender streetwalkers, it still makes for an interesting read. At one point, a police captain admits that the department doesn't have the resources to combat any form of prostitution other than streetwalking and that he'd be happy if all the pros on the street just started working from home.

Unfortunately, this police captain likely does not represent the majority opinion of the vice squad, which irrespective of their resources, has spent a great deal of time, money and effort to both entrap gay men for public sex situations and to entrap escorts and/or clients in sex-for-payment situations.

There are a few other threads on the topic, so I will not belabor the issue beyond this comment.

Maybe it's time to speak out?

Seems like a case of say one thing and do another, I think the LAPD would just as soon not have all the time they waste persuing every kind of prostitution in Hollywood made public. They know the citizens don't consider it a priority and may stop the ever increasing funding for more officers and jail cells if their activities were fully covered in the press.

Despite it being victimless and the fact that a very large number of Hollywood residents don't even think it should be a crime, the LAPD continues to persue *escorts* working over the internet quite doggedly. As I mentioned in another thread one I hired through craigslist was busted about a month ago.

Of course they will persue street prostitution, with good reason, but maybe people should start to speak out about the LAPD and private escorts... maybe a letter to that paper and others would be a good start, especially 'name withheld' letters from escorts who've had run-ins so that the public could get a better idea as to the numbers and that it's not as seedy as it sounds.
