I dislike putting people and groups in boxes using labels and stereotypes but appreciate having information about individual people, books, etc. because it improves the chances of finding what I'm looking for.

 

It's the difference between using labels to limit people and put them down and using them to meet your needs/desires. That's a functional difference, not a semantic one.
