Sure.

Another poster created a thread -- now deleted -- in which he described being taken to an apartment by a Gaiety dancer. He drew a picture of a terrible place: dirty, bare mattresses with stains on them, a bathroom that you might find at a bad gas station, the kind of place you wouldn't even want to walk in, much less take your clothes off and fool around in.

Several other posters have since described the place as being not as bad as the original poster painted it, but it still doesn't sound like the kind of place I'd enjoy going to at all. In fact, I posted in that original thread that I would have left the moment I saw the place.

That thread got me to thinking about the Gaiety. I go to NYC frequently and often stay at the Marriott Marquis, which is of course right across the street from the Gaiety. When I first found about it a few years ago, I thought it was cool and would go fairly often. But, after a pretty short period of time, I realized that I didn't find the shows all that interesting, even though the guys were generally pretty hot. And while hiring the dancers was easy, since that's what they're there for, I found that even the ones who were trying to be good about it were pretty eager to return to the Gaiety and that I had a much better time whenever I hired a regular escort. (The one exception to this was the time I met a tall, blond dancer at the G early on evening. After talking to him for a while, he asked if I'd be up for waiting until the end of the night. I said sure and came back to get him hours later. I don't recall his name, but that was a fun time.)

There's clearly a contingent here that likes the Gaeity and are loyal to that. Nothing with that at all. I'm glad the Gaiety exists and will drop in every once in a great while just for a little while to see if anything has changed.

But there are also posts from time to time complaining about it, the dirty-apartment post being only the latest one. Last week, there was a post complaining about Gaeity rates and how high they were. Since I think hiring a dancer at the Gaiety doesn't provide nearly the value you can get by hiring a regular NYC escort, I found myself wondering why anybody went there. So I started this thread. And I'm glad I did, because not only did I get my question answered, it gave several Gaiety fans a chance to explain eloquently why they went and why they valued it so much.

Well-it is one of the last of a dying breed.Nonetheless should we be expected to put up with the kind of lackluster muscle marys that have trod the boards of this temple of "all male"eroticism,or the "I don't give a shit about anything"manegeress-who seems to have forgotten that the paying customers keep her doors open-she is not doing us any favors here folks.

I decided long ago to vote with my wallet-and I have not darkened the G's door again.Although I do have friends who are very connected to the scene and They give me an UNBIASED,TRUTHFULL account of what is happening there, something that can be rare in the forum dedicated to strip clubs. And I sometimes share the worst(or best-depending on your irony intake level)of these events I am shot down by those loyal to the manageress, her goons(or favorites depending on the time of the month)and her stable of "dancers"

Yet we get enough feedback from unbiased posters and new comers to know that hiring these hustlers is a losing proposition unless, and this seems to be the case for the gaity regs posting here for the most part, you are;a)blinded by lust,b)do not know any better or c)too much of a sheep to break away from the "we all love the gaity-all the time-and there is nothing wrong with it-never-mind-that-little-man-behind-the-curtain"crowd

So BG-you are right to raise the question, but be prepared to be peppered by attacks that have given reason a holiday.

Boston Guy,

I have two reasons that have not been mentioned here yet, so I thought I would add my opinion :

Reason #1 (for me) : I HAD NOTHING ELSE TO DO THAT EVENING ...I am being totally serious. I am not a particularly horny guy, so it was definitely not my libido. Sometimes Im just chillin at home, my friends are in for the night, no good movies out, or I just dont feel like talking with people so I dont want to "go out."

I have only been going to the Gaiety since this summer (2004) and its cool for me to see some of the guys. If 7:30pm rolls around and I am doing nothing (excuse my grammar) Ill take a drive in to the city and see the show. I would not go more than once a week, if that, because it costs me $34-$47 to park and with my income I can justify that to often...yet I somehow find the money to afford an escort :-)

Reason # 2 (I dont think this is a problem for me, but I could be in denial) : The Gaiety provides something that the ads do not : THE ABILITY TO APPEASE AN ADDICTIVE OR OBSESSIVE PERSON'S desire to get laid on the spot. When reading an ad, you have to make the call and may not get any response or you schedule an appoinment and then have to go to the escort or they have to come to you. To certain types of people, this is too much waiting. At the Gaiety, you can shop and impulse buy whatever you like.

I usually go to the Gaiety thinking that if I dont like anyone in particular, Ill just see the show and go home. However, as someone said before, I usually hire cause its a shame to "waste a trip:-) "

I live in Westchester, a suburb of NYC and it takes a little bit of travel, tolls, etc. so I figure that Ive already invested from the moment I get in to the car.

RE: Boring Boston Guy.

Geez, that sure is a fair and balanced response to a guy simply saying he finds the Gaiety show "boring" and soliciting some feedback. Someone has too much time on their hands to analyze a person's complete existence from a simple posting.

I usually go to the Gaiety when I am in NYC but have to agree that the pacing of the show is boring. In Montreal and other cities they do a great job of alternating dancers between their fast and slow

songs...the first one they strip, the second appearance they come out hard, but another guy dances in between. At the Gaiety, you sit in darkness for ten minutes in between the dancer's fast and slow. Why?

I have never understood this format except that it fills out the hours

of the show. On weekend evenings this means they can have "continuous shows".

Guest zipperzone

As I live in Vancouver, I don't get to NYC all that often. Once or twice in a year would be a good year.

I always hit the "G" - best attraction the town has to offer.

Why?

'Cause I'm a dedicated voyeur. Ain't no place finer for that sport.

However, I seldom hire from there. Just too much pressure from the escort to be finished and on to the next one.

Yes, definately smelling them!

I really do want to know what they smell like. While I'm into no deodorant (I.E. natural B.O.), I suspect those who don't want any odor would want to verify the absense of odor.

If you make an arrangement and you don't want the guy to put on deodorant, you do have to tell him. I once picked up a guy who had a great odor, but he put on deodorant before we went to the hotel. He said that he was afraid that I'd be "offended.";)
