>Anyone else on the MC watch the show or simply fans of Bill

>Maher? Just curious.

His show is one of the few I watch on TV, and I've followed him, as you have, from his earlier his HBO ( I think it was originally called Politically Incorredt and they allowed him to take the name to network) show. He seems to have become more pro-gay recently with less wise cracks about gays, which were common in both his earlier HBO and network TV, although never hostile.

Alan Cranstan just nailed him good however on this last show--still playing I believe--first time I ever saw Bill at a loss for words although he recovered quickly. Loved it when he and Michael Moore got on their knees and begged Nadar to withdraw.

Cranston's appearance on the show was dismal at best~

He kept avoiding the question that Maher was asking, eventually just shutting down and resorting to name-calling. Bill looked flustered, but kept plugging along with the relatively tame questions. Cranston keep slinging mud for no apparent reason, all while hiding behind the murder of Matthew Sheppard and how his state (Wyoming) has since cleaned up their act...

Yeah, right.

Maher handled the situation like a pro. He was polite and in the end he thanked Cranston for coming onto the show, to which Cranston replied 'Never Again.' One last parting shot i suppose. Real class, eh?

I agree with Flower that Maher was taken aback at first, but then regained his composure when he realized that Cranston was simply always going to be on the hyper-defensive.

I have to say I honestly don’t watch Bill Maher and I am glad I don’t. I used to watch him on ABC when he was on and I have seen him on HBO the only difference I see for the most part is that he cusses with a few funny tidbits. I don’t think there is anything special with Rush Limbaugh or Bill Maher and I prefer to read educated opinions than hear from people who can play the emotions of the audience.

I was a bit surprised by Vincent's reaction to Maher as well~

To compare Bill Maher to Rush Limbaugh and to then top it off by insinuating that Maher is uneducated is just plain strange. Anyone who's watched an episode of Real Time can't dispute that Maher is really on top of his game when dealing with various issues.

*shrugs* Eh. To each his own :)

In other TV-watching news, anyone catch 'Nip/Tuck?'

I just bought the first season on DVD. I'm hooked!

And nasty, judgmental railings against innocent, tongue-in-cheek, postings from others, when you have not been involved in the interactions between the posters, is SO TYPICAL of your judgmental, condescending, moralistic attitude. Let me expound on this post with an even ruder statement, BITE ME! x( x( x( x( x( x(

BTW: I wouldn't be so crassly crude as to refer to an escort by his real name on any site where he posts using his working name. x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x(

>Are you opining that his previous postings, were "just an

>act"?

Nope--not sure how you read that into it. Only thing I'm "opining" is that your statement was rude.

If you called yourself an idiot, does that mean I have license to call you an idiot whenever I feel like it? Hmmm--bad example.

I've seen him acknowledge his spelling challenge, but nothing else about what he's written would indicate that one should be surprised at erudite thought from him--quite the opposite in fact-- but, quite the contrary for ---oops--would that be an improper personal attack?

Stories aren't the only thing that is "sticking it to you", is it?

It never ceases to amaze me, that gay men have to be lectured in morals, values and sexual practices, from "previously married heterosexual" old farts who "suddenly discover" that they are gay in middle age, and then proceed to divorce their wives, after cheating on such wives, for years, with other men, and who then proceed to have absolutely no gay experiences, except for those that they pay escorts to provide them. :-( No more :) with such a clueless dude!

Wow, Benj, seems our taste in TV shows is very similar. I stumbled on nip/tuck this year as well. Have seen the complete series thanks to DVD's and NetFlix. Awesome show. And the young kids are hot too!

I agree with your posts on Bill as well. The other show I have just started watching is the WB's Jack and Bobby. Cute kid, but they also seem to have some topical themes, this weeks dealt with conservatives and gay marriage.

Not to get involved too much in your hissy-fit, but Allan Cranston is a past senator from the great state of California while the senator who did appear on Bill Maher's show was Alan Simpson of Wyoming, V.P. Cheney's backwater home.

I am shocked! I am reading all the posts and what I said was not a slam ageist BN, I was just telling how I felt about Bill Maher and his show. I am not saying Bill Maher is stupid, I just feel that to often people like Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh play people just to get ratings higher.

We are all affected by our surroundings and if you have a crowd of people who does not agree on one point with you but they come to life on another point then most people go for what they got a huge reaction out of. We are affected by the people around us as much as the are by us.

I am just expressing my openion, I am sure Bill is a great guy I just prefer to not watch him and I have that right.

What I am saying here is in books the words are on paper, If someone gets pissed about the book then oh well the auther is not going to change it at that point.

Guest Tristan

Bill Maher happens to be one of my very favorite people. I have seen his show a few times as well as appearances on Larry King. IMO Bill Maher is one of the brightest, most perceptive, sharpest, incisive, and wittiest people in this country. He understands what's wrong with this country and is able to articulate it better than anyone I've ever heard. I would probably vote for him for President.

It's too bad that a lot of this thread got hijacked with the usual personal feuding that runs rampant on the MB. Thanks, Ben for starting a thread on this most unusual personality. Sorry your thread got partially hijacked.

>This response is not in line with what we expect from VM.

>After all, VM can't spell very well, and we won't even venture

>into grammatical sentence structure. Are you sure you are VM?

I personally can say this is VM. As far as his spelling cut us a fuckin break, show me one perfect person in this world besides yourself Va. Do you ever have anything nice to say. You seem to ruin 99.9% of the threads on the message board, really think you need a life.

>This response is not in line with what we expect from VM.

What where you expecting, again I think your just typing to read youeself over & over again.

>Spelling doesn't mean anything to me. I was only making observations

Observations are fine, we are all invited to speak our two cents. Again it's just that you seem to get off at being rude.

When in doubt I whip it out :+

Maher has always rocked!

Where else can you find comments on a talk show like Richard Belzer made on RealTime:

Bush is the worst president we've had, from the enviroment, to the demonization of gays, repression of black voters, to the favoritism of Haliburton, this unending war, and where are we going to get more troops?? We can't let our lives be consumed by fear.

Won't hear that on Fox.

I totally agree Bill is a smart man! But you can’t argue that on his show he plays the audience and makes a good show. I would rather read what Bill has to say rather than hear him on his show.

Also Bill is great on Larry King because it’s Larry and Bill no one else for him to get excited other than himself.

Give me a break its my b-day!

I absolutely agree with above statement...not sure about voting for him to be president. Bill Maher is something I told TIVO to record every week.....show is now over for the season. The last show last week was rather interesting when ex senator from Wyoming (Simpson) really gave it to Bill. Maher was at a loss of words as to how to reply to Simpson, who was accusing him of setting him up, etc. Maher usually is good at responding to such insults but this time, he couldn't. Also had some exchanges with Susan Sorandan but they did not reach the intensity of the "Simpson vs Maher" interactions which preceeded it.

All in all, Maher is bright, entertaining, and really lets those uptight Republicans have it.

Very good show which I will miss....hopefully HBO will renew it.
