Okay lucky and Vahawk maybe we are ugly in your not so humble opinion but we are also the World Champs! 86 years! I think this is the first of quite a few!

And by the way ugly look at Theo Epstien I think he is pretty hot! I am still in shock I can't believe this has actually happened. 8 games straight that is winning in style!

Congrats to Boston and its fans. I'm delighted. I thought the Red Sox played the Yankees well and sure clobbered the Cardinals. (Of course I'm for anyone or any thing that can beat Tony LaRussa.) A great moment in baseball history and lore. How fitting for the supposed Curse to end under the eerie illumination of a lunar eclipse. I'm sure the Babe would have approved.

Congrats Red Sox! A Wild Card Team wins the series with a sweep! Now, next year's opening game at Fenway, the World Series Champion's banner is raised at Fenway Park and the Yankees have to watch it!

I'm really looking forward to seeing their next time at the World Series. According to my calculations it should be in the year 2090!!:+

Seriously, they played a great series and deserved the win. Only wish the last game had actually taken place in Boston. But, that probably would have caused a riot.

Hell Freezes Over

I guess we can expect a landslide on Tuesday, to quote the man who responded to a question on why everyone that a certain Massachusetts politician was the most electable democratic candidate this year, that the chance of John Kerry being elected was the same as the Red Sox winning the World Series.

Not only that, but the World Series RINGS are usually presented to the team at their first home stand the following season, which, as you pointed out, will be against the Yankees! The steam will be rising from Steinbrenner's ears...

That's a great quote. Who said it?

The BoSox are World Champions on the MLB playing field, and I'm glad for the players and the lifelong BoSox fans. None of that, however, negates anything that was posted about how "ugly" the BoSox fans are.

You may be right about the "first of quite a few", as if you spend enough money, then "you too can buy a championship - ala the Yankees". When can any of the under $80 million payroll teams, vis a vis the Twins or A's ever beat the Yankees or Red Sox in the ALCS, even though they can win their divisions, year after year, when competing against the other teams in their divisions with the same payroll restrictions?

You are aware, that many of the guys that were "paid" to bring the trophy home to Boston, are free agents now? Is Boston willing/able to up the payroll into the $100 million+/yr to repeat?? I doubt it, so look for Pedro Martinez, as a free agent, to be pitching for the Yankees next year.

The BoSox owners don't give a shit, as the fans will cream their pants if they bring home a World Championship once every 100 years.

I love the Yankees, as at least they are honest about the "buying", and as such, make no apologies for doing so, whereas the Red Sox and their whiney assed fans, strike a "holier than thou pose" as being paragons of "baseball virtue" while engaging in the very same tactics that they brand the Yankees as "evil empire" for engaging in.

Now that the Sox have won the World Series, I'm interested in seeing how they hold up vs the Yankees in the "bought a championship" criticsms that the Yankees have had to endure for years. My prediction is that they will fail miserably, but then again, the BoSox and their fans are only happy when they are whining in the wallows of misery.

RE: Hell Freezes Over

HAHAHAHA! The fate of the nation lies in the performance of the Washington Redskins!

A fact: since the 1930's, whenever the Redskins have lost the last home game before election Tuesday, the incumbent president has lost his re-election bid. Every time they have won that game, the incumbent president has won!

Now, being a die hard Democrat and virulent GWB hater, but on the other hand, a die hard Redskins fan, I find myself in a real quandary. I LOVE my Redskins, and I REALLY want them to win!, but I HATE GWB and I REALLY want him to lose, so who the hell am I supposed to root for on Sunday? :-(

I have NEVER rooted for the Redskins to lose a game in my entire life, and I can't see myself rooting for them to lose to the Packers on Sunday. THIS SUCKS!

In case no one follows football, the Packers have one of the top ranked offenses in football, but a weak defense, and the Redskins have one of the worst ranked offenses in the NFL, but the top ranked defense in the entire NFL! As such, anyone could win this game.

But perhaps the DUI gods are smiling on this election? You do recall that GWB got one of those, right?

The Redskins starting strong safety, Matt Bowen, is out for the year on an injury. His replacement, the number 5 pick in the draft, and a great player, rookie Sean Taylor, has been benched for the game, because he was arrested by the Fairfax County VA cops for a DUI yesterday morning.

All this on top of the lunar eclipse, is just too weird, karma wise. :( I'm SO CONFUSED!

Unfortunately, I do not recall who said. Kerry himself repeated the quote this in his speech in Wisconsin when he appeared with Bruce Springstein (Thursday), but did not mention the name. A client of mine who rabidly follows politics said it was Joe Lieberman, and I do lean to it being one of Kerry's democratic challengers in the primaries, but it could easily have been a republican operative, say Karl Rove or Ari Fleischer for that matter. I spent thirty minutes on Google without much luck, sorry.

Well VaHawk your "buying the championship" doesn't hold up since the Red Sox Payroll was about 120 mil and the Yankees around 200 mill that is a good 40 percent more and they LOST!

And I pray the Redskins loose tomorrow for so many reasons, I think the only thing VaHawk and myself could agree on is that we both are GWB haters, I have respect for you on that front!

It is very true that many of the players on the Red Sox are free agents. However, I doubt Pedro will be pitching for the Yankess next year, he wouldn't want to cut his hair. The current Red Sox team has a ton of heart, loves the greatest fans on earth (of course the Red Sox Fans) and just play baseball. I think that is very refreshing! As I was outside Fenway park on Thursday waiting in line for my Locker Room shirt and cap, Manny drove down Yawkee way honking and yelling at the fans then stopped and his car was quickly surrounded and signed hats and shirts and autographs for a good 20 minutes, great class!

We will not be happy not having another championship for the next 86 years, the bar has been set for greatness! I love the rivalry between the Yanks and the Red Sox it makes Baseball exciting and interesting and brings out the truth about the Yankee's fans, and how hateful they are even though they have won for so many yeats!

Great Parade today and may the Redskins loose!

Hey Hawkster, let me make this easier for you. Root for whomever is playing against the 'Skins. (The Redskins were the mascot of my High School, btw.) The Nation will appreciate you taking one for the team. If you have any bet(s) riding on the outcome, we'll pass the hat here and cover them for you. Hopefully, the 'Skins will still make it to whatever the postseason destination is ordained to be.

Meanwhile, a grateful Nation will long appreciate your noble sacrifice.

P. S. Hopefully a few escorts will chip in on the bet covering so you won't be stuck with covering your losses in boring old cash.

Wow 120 million , 2nd only to the Yankees, and which is 60 million more than the Twins and A's so how does that negate my point? The Yankees also LOST to the Marlins last year in the World Series. What is the Marlins payroll again - 50 million?

The Red Sox are just as guilty as the Yankees when it comes to driving up player payroll in order to "buy" a championship. But you don't hear Yankee fans being all nasty about it and calling Boston the "Evil Empire" do you?

RE: Hell Freezes Over

Thanks for the laugh. I needed it, after that game, where once again, the refs cost the Redskins a victory this season.

But I was fairly sure that the Redskins would lose again, as they have no offense! I was kind of glad due to the history that they were losing, but when they came back to score the tying touchdown, with the pat to come for victory, I admit that the Redskins won my heart more than Kerry. Of course, once again, a bad ref call negated the win. Unfortunately, we don't have a Supreme Court to overturn the decision. :)

I hope this means that Bush is on the way out!

One thing that no one has pointed out: the Sox's payroll is $35 to $40 million more than the Cardinals'. St Louis is not really a small market city, despite its size, because the Cards' draw fans for many neighboring states. None of this excuses the Redbirds total colapse in the Series. But, St. Louis can only compete year after year with New York, Boston and Atlanta because so many veteran players (McGwire,

Rolen, Edmonds, Walker) and younger players (Pujols) want to play in the midwest where there is less media and fan pressure. How can cities like Tampa Bay, Detroit, Milwaukee compete? The answer is they can not, at least not on a year in, year our basis. That's sad for baseball.

A belated loud cheer for the Red Sox from a life long Cardinal fan!
