I've seen photos of my dad when he was young. (100% Korean ethnically, 100% American - he was born here and believed in assimilation.) He was fucking pretty, although the squareness of his face and jaw would make him an ineffective cross-dresser. (He jokingly called himself a blockhead. He meant it.) He was also a navigator and bombardier in the Army Air Forces during WWII. All the boys in my neighborhood were scared of him, even the sons of state troopers, and he was 5' 6" at his tallest.

 

I should also add that he was originally REJECTED when he tried to enlist BECAUSE OF HIS RACE AND ETHNICITY - because his parents (who were refugees) were born in/citizens of a country occupied by Japan. He sent a letter to President Roosevelt pointing out how illogical and unfair this was, and he was accepted. His enlistment MADE THE LOCAL PAPERS.

 

When his father fell from a tree and broke his arm, my father dropped out of school for a semester and ran the truck farm that was the source of family income. He was in junior high school at the time.

 

I don't think anyone EVER had the temerity to question his masculinity.

 

Yes, there are ladyboys. There are men who are rugged looking. There are all sorts in between.

I've thought since I was a youngster that Ken Watanabe was one of the most handsome men I'd ever seen. And Jason Mamoa could bend me over a bannister any time he wanted!
