I will be traveling to New York for a few days and since my flight comes into Newark and goes back out from there, I think I will stay at or near the airport. Does anyone know of any nice hotels with reasonable rates that have high speed internet in the rooms and that is convenient to the trains where I can go into and out of NYC easily? :) I know it is a lot to ask but but appreciate any help!

Check out the Airport Hilton.

Dunno if it is in your range but it is probably your best bet for quality. I work quite a bit in Newark and that is where we always put up visiting business people. Not lots to choose from in Newark.

As for convenient to mass transit, that is kind of hard. Theres always cabs to take you to Newark Penn Station in order to catch a NJ Transit Train or PATH train (depending on your destination) and I believe the Airport itself has train service available to Newark Penn.

Good Luck

I gotta ask ...... WHY??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

No matter how nice the hotel may be, you're still in **NEWARK**!! :+

(Note: Newark was my home-base airport for a long time. I'd still prefer any HoJo in Manhattan over anything in Newark.)

Fun, I wish my life were that interesting. :)

I wanted to stay in Newark only because I wag with me 3 huge suitcases, a large computer bag and 2 other carry on's. I only wanted to stay close to the airport to see if it was any easier. :) I will still get into the city a few times to see friends and go to the theatre. But, the nights I was looking for the city hotels were almost all booked up. :)

I'm not sure about staying at the airport. Have you thought about saying in Jersey City? There's a Court Yard by Marriott (http://marriott.com/property/propertyPage.mi?marshaCode=EWRNW)and a Double Tree(http://doubletree.hilton.com -- link to the specific hotel doesn't work, so you have to go to Double Tree's site and do a search for Jersey City, NJ). Both hotels are located in the Jersey City's Pavonia / Newport neighborhood, which is located on the Hudson River, adjacent to the Holland Tunnel. A cab from the airport costs approximately $30 according to Doubletree's website. Depending on the traffic, it should take between 20 minutes and a half an hour to get to the airport. The Court Yard is located at the entrance to the Pavonia / Newport Path Station. (Path is a subway that provides 24/7 service to and from the New York City. http://www.panynj.gov/path/index.html) The Double Tree is located about two blocks South of the Path station. Ferry Service is also available. (http://www.nywaterway.com/newport_mid.html -- note I have to turn off my firewall for the ferry's website to work.) Friends have stayed at both hotels. Both hotels are only a short cab ride to and from the City. Also a short cab ride from the city. (Be prepared. Arm yourself with directions before stepping into a cab.)

There's also a Hyatt Hotel a little further South, in the heart of Jersey City's financial district, on Exchange Place. It's kind of pricy. It's adjacent to the Exchange Place Path Station. And about a block from the ferry.

There's a Sheridan about a mile and half north of the Court Yard, in the Lincoln Harbor office/hotel/retail complex in Weehawken, NJ, which is on the Hudson River, adjacent to the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel. (Sheridan's website is down at the moment.) There's RUSH HOUR ONLY ferry service to and from New York right next door to the hotel. More frequent ferry service is available about a mile north of the Sheridan. The hotel has a shuttle. Friends have also stayed there. It's a short cab ride to and from the City and this location is especially convenient to the theater district. Again, arm yourself with directions before stepping into a cab. (Taking the ferry and then the hotel shuttle is probably the best way to get around.)

Hope this helps.

Regarding those Jersey City hotels mentioned....

they are also located within walking distance on my flat and I am infinitely useful as a guide (among other things).

:-)
