There was a similar concept in Seattle called Tubs in the University district. Only difference was there were private rooms with a hot tub a thin padded bed/bench and a sauna in each private room. The concept was nice, discrete and fairly clean as far I could tell and experienced.

I'm a huge fan of outdoor jacuzzis. I remember hearing about this place and thinking, "This is going to be so great" Then I looked at the Yelp page and learned that people were having sex in the pools. (Just FYI, it's not exactly a bathhouse environment; straight couples tend to arrive together.) The health department closed down the Manhattan location on that first day after a dead body was found there.

But hope lives on! The 57th Street location re-opened, with several jacuzzis on the roof! It's only open until 7:50. Hopefully, that's too early for the sex crowd. I've always wanted to sit in a rooftop or terrace jacuzzi while it snows.

Also, this is all wide open. There are no cubicles and it wasn't designed for sex or hookups with strangers. It is actually a US version of the Korean jjil-jilbang (public baths), which is usually attended en masse by family or friends and is meant for socializing. And no, I've never been to one, just read about them.

Well, there are multiple floors, including the one below. According to the policy manual: "The locker room hot baths are fully nude – absolutely no clothing allowed inside." Also, see those little hot tubs on the rooftop? Those are called "couple tubs." But don't worry, kissing and inappropriate displays are forbidden.

BTW, Spa Castle is Korean-owned.

Yes, the article mentions this, which is why I called it a US version of the Korean jjil-jilbang. Perhaps I should have called it a jjil-jilbang for the US market.

Irrespective, I suspect cultural differences regarding the use of such spas have something to do with this. In South Korea, jjil-jilbangs are not places to get it on with one's honey. There are love hotels and DVD rooms for that.

There's a similar place near DC called Spa World.

This place has has also been subject to controversy regarding prostitution and treating workers like slaves.
