50 Shades of Grey--D. Johnson considered pretty?

Believe it or not, I only put this movie on my Netflix queue because I saw the trailer for 50 Shades of Black, and I really like spoof movies, so I thought I'd watch the original movie so that I could get a laugh when the spoof comes up on DVD. In any case, Jamie Dornan is hot, although probably not exactly my type (you know, dark hair, light-colored eyes, and muscular body). Anyways, what really surprised me was his sexual interest, played by Dakota Johnson. Of course, I'm probably the worst person to judge female beauty, but she looked pretty plain from this gay man's eyes.

Maybe one of you bisexuals (or one of you who may have discussed this with a heterosexual man) could tell me, is Dakota Johnson considered sexy for a woman? I'm not exactly who else I might ask this. I suppose I could ask my brother...

I think she's pretty, but certainly not stunning. I didn't see the movie or read the book but it was impossible to escape the hype. Wasn't that kind of the plot - - that an average, somewhat mousy, woman fell under the spell of a beautiful, powerful dom?

Her look follows the book character...simple college student stumbles into Christian's world.

 

While reading the books I was constantly turned on by how the Christian character's "look" was described. Hot!! I didn't feel the casting reflected the feeling, there were other male actor contenders I think could have better portrayed the drop dead head turning good looks Christian has in the book.

I have not seen the movie but I have to agree she is very plain looking. I have nothing against that but she slap seems to have a plain wooden personality. I find her to be so very boring as an actress. everything she seems to be in is just blah when she is in the screen. there was a fairly good comedy she was in (despite her being one of the stars) called Ben and Kate. she was just awful in it. but it also has Lucy Punch who is hysterical in it and Nat Faxon who was also really great in it. I don't know what it is about her but I don't think acting is really her thing......she should see if she could get a job as a carboard cutout or something that doesn't require her to show any emotion.

There were. The first person to be announced for the role backed out. Dornan was their second choice.

 

More to the point, for all its sales, the books are something of a laughingstock to many people, including those to whom it's aimed, because they're terribly written, arguably anti-feminist, and portray BDSM not only badly but as a response to sexual abuse. (At the end, Christian gives it up and he and Ana have vanilla sex.) Although I know people who like them and others who think they work as porn, just barely. There is plenty of better written erotica and erotic romance out there as well as plenty of better written alternate universe fanfiction, which is what this started as (Twilight fandom, which explains some of the wonky relationship dynamics).

I can only laugh because all of the reviews and commentary I've seen say Dakota Johnson carries the movie and that the movie is an improvement over the corresponding book. From what I understand, the script helps as well. Doing away with Ana's internal monologue probably helped a lot.

I've neither seen the book nor watched the movie, but from Wikipedia:

"Christian asks Ana out for coffee and asks if she's dating anyone, specifically José. Ana replies that she is not dating anyone. During the conversation, Ana learns that Christian is also single, but he says he is no romantic. Ana is intrigued but believes she is not attractive enough for Christian."

 

Also, here's how a hot girl with some self-esteem would have reacted to this:

"Ana goes on a date with Christian, on which he takes her in his helicopter, Charlie Tango, to his apartment. Once there, Christian insists that she sign a non-disclosure agreement forbidding her from discussing anything they do together, which Ana agrees to sign. He also mentions other paperwork, but first takes her to his playroom full of BDSM toys and gear. There, Christian informs her that the second contract will be one of dominance and submission, and there will be no romantic relationship, only a sexual one."

Just 1% of actors/actresses live from acting... I'm sure many of them would say what the heck and do it, worst case scenario is that at least they got 1 hit in their lives.

that is some funny shit. I feel like I have watched the movie now and probably enjoyed it more than the people that actually went to the movie. She was as cardboard in those scenes as she has been in everything else I have seen her in.
