I don't get it. Unless a parent is trying to prevent a teen from doing something reckless, the notion of going to court to get an order that your 15 year old child spend time with you seems counterproductive.

She has custody of the kids. I think maybe by law she has that option but not sure.

At 15, if your child would rather spend time with the other parent and not you then that should tell you something -- unless the preferred parent has no rules or expectations and the other does, in which case most teens would rather be with the lenient parent.

The story mentioned him being rebellious, which would explain the behavior. Here's the thing: he is a minor and Madonna is the custodial parent. She is responsible for him and, given she brought him with her while on tour, seems to take the responsibility seriously. Whether she is Madge the superstar or Madge Schmidlap down the street, she's his mother, dammit, and he will do as she says.

Good luck. If he stays in the UK, what is she going to do, petition for extradition? Go drag him home against his will?

 

The courts in the UK get to evaluate the case themselves and don't necessarily have to follow NY's lead. NY and UK family law may not be as different as, say, that of NY or any US state is from Iran's, to cite at least one custody dispute that turned on choice of law, but they're unlikely to be identical. The more she pushes the situation, the more she risks a long-term rift.
