I admit I never saw the first Spiderman movie, but I did see the second, and IMHO Toby's performance can be best described as "Pussy Boy". In movie #2, spidy pretty much shows his face and true identity to the whole city - perhaps a metaphor illustrating how many people have penetrated his twink ass.

Shouldn't Super Heros be Tops!!!!

Well he showed his face/true identity in the first movie as well. Using your analogy, perhaps they should call him the Black Widow.

Obviously, by your comments, you really don't feel than any man who is young, smooth and of small stature is anything but a "twink", which many such men consider an insult. Of course all such men, are always bottoms and as such "pussy" - gay male style.

Every time I run across comments such as these, I wonder if there is any hope at all for acceptance of basic human rights for gays as they don't seem to be able to even respect differences in each other or be able to function without applying stereotypes and derogatory lables to each other. :(

Va,

I don't take myself seriously, and I'd speculate that everyone else would sleep better if they didn't take me seriously either.

I always thought your handle Va-Hawk meant Virginia ChickenHawk. Probably a bad assumption on my part, expecially considering your comments in this thread??? I trust you are not implying that the term "twink" is politically incorrect, but "chicken" is an acceptable term???

Anyway, I never said that all twinks are pussies or bottoms. I said that one specific twink, who's character acted like a pussy in a movie, must be a character who is a bottom. I went on to imply that a superhero who is "promiscious" enough to show his secret identity to many people, might also offer his "services" to many people. Said comments were meant as a joke -- I think it's funny. Maybe such comments, made in the general population, might not exactly promote the agenda of the gay community, but within the confines of this board, I think we are enlighted enough to deal with it.

Hey OneFinger,

I do think that is him in the movie he takes off his shirt once and with the tight suit quite nice. I saw an interview and a making of spiderman 1 where he said he went in and they didn't really think he was right so he stripped down to the waist and did the fight scene so they could see how cut he was and in the making they showed the audition and he was really hot, now it may be touched a bit though but he looked good taking his shirt off.

Now for the other comment Spiderman has always been my hero! When I was young it became a joke where people called me spidey or spider or here in Boston Spida (no "r's" we don't need them). This wasn't just because he was my favorite superhero but because of my last name (no it isn't spider but how cool would that be!!).

Now I will sound like a 15 yo for a moment. You forget that Peter Parker was in High School when he got bit by the spider! What is that 17 yo. And he is a science geek, now in the 2nd movie it looks as though he is in college but still young! He wasn't born with his powers they were thrust upon him by circumstances, and he is not a very confident person as Peter Parker that is one side of his personality remember he was in love with MJ for years and never told her. So he was supposed to act like a pussyboy... Now I must get back to my latest Green Hornet comic book have a great day. :-)

Guest ReturnOfS

Trust me, that is really Toby. In all of his interviews about the part, Toby always talks about the extensive workout routine and diet that he goes through to get his body looking like that.

Also is it just me, or does Toby look even younger in this sequel than he did in the first movie. I think that it is because he is actually a little slimmer in this movie believe it or not. When Toby did Seabiscuit after doing the first Spider-man movie, he talked about how he had to loose so much weight that he even had to lose muscle mass to get ready for the role as a jockey. To get ready for Spider-man2 he had to get his muscles up again. I think that he started from an even slimmer body the second time around.

I love me some Toby. :9

The "E" True Hollywood Story

HBO is showing the original Spiderman this month or it should be readily available on either VHS and DVD. Hell, a girlfriend of a good friend of mine got a bootleg copy of Spiderman 2 from a street vendor just a few blocks from City Hall here in downtown Los Angeles. There is a good scene in there where Toby takes his shirt off prior to his "transformation" and afterwards, when he wakes up with more definition and muscle than he had before he went to sleep. While he certainly looks nicer, the change is neither extraordinary nor emblemic of the type of changes you might see, for example, in some adult film stars who bulk up in later films after they have done a few cycles of steroids.

The point of Spiderman was to create a conflicted super hero - one who was not from another planet, but was in many ways, otherwise an ordinary person. It was believed that this was a way for more people to identify with this superhero and this element is sometimes credited with the appeal and success of this movie franchise over others, such as The Hulk.

Finally, the scene on the train, where the passengers carry Spiderman over their heads after he nearly falls, clearly is meant to reflect and resemble other imagery; the train was full of perhaps 50 to 75 people, far from the entire city; and some of the passengers comments, such as "he's not much older than my kid" were meant to reinforce the conflicted/ordinary individual with super human powers elements of the story. For whatever reason, it did not appeal to you, and while I do not want to come across as a fanatic of this series (I never bothered to watch the first one until I saw it on HBO while traveling), I think you do a disservice to Toby McGuire, Sam Rami and the films as well as an insult to bottoms everywhere.
