Career in Porn

I was fascinated by the documentary Life After Porn which is available both on Hulu and Netflix. Several former porn stars are interviewed about their lives following porn. Most were doing well. I assume those who weren't would not want to be interviewed, obviously.

 

I was interested in another post where the author informed us of Billy Brandt's life after porn. It inspired me to review his work, and I forgot how attractive he was during his early twenties.

 

In my opinion, doing porn does not have the negative consequences in the gay community.

 

Does anyone have updates on any porn stars of yesteryear?

I think another thing that makes it less stigmatized these days -- the sheer number of people who have done it. With the advent of the Internet and broadband, a truly significant number of people have done porn. It must number in tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands. I'd imagine it would be kind of easy to get lost in the crowd as long as you weren't in the top echelon of porn stars and don't segue into a sensitive/famous kind of job.

I think you are correct that there are far fewer consequences in the gay community. After all, we celebrate our sexuality and these guys are the rock stars of sex. But even that only goes so far. I recently read a comment on this very board that I will paraphrase to "Why would you expect good behavior from someone who sells his body?" And that's on a message board where we love and admire these guys!

 

I think this is true for men in the gay community, but I still think it has lifelong consequences for women. It's a complete double standard of course, but they will forever be tainted by it in most circles. Even in my own family I could bring home a boyfriend who has done porn and it would be no big deal, but if one of my brothers brought home a woman who had done porn it would be a scandal. It's a crazy fucking world.

I remember calling that statement out. It is proof, however, that in some cases, there's thinly-veiled contempt underneath that supposed love and admiration.
