Spotlight was nice but overrated. Played like a pale imitation of All the President's Men. I think most of this year's winners and films will be forgotten. Not a great year for film.

That awful Sam Smith song won Best Song. Disgusting. Of course, the best song of the year -- See you Again (the Paul Walker tribute) -- wasn't even nominated.

+1. Still Making my way thru all nominees, but definitely enjoyed Spotlight more than The Revenant.

Enjoyed? I didn't find either movie something to "enjoy." But Revenant at least was cinematic. Spotlight -- while good -- was a photograph of people talking as Hitchcock used to say.

To each his own, but I rooted for the bear in The Revenant! Spotlight was a far more enjoyable movie.

Enjoyable. There's that word again. I guess the English language has degraded to the point where nothing means anything anymore. Blame social media.

Spotlight is a very good movie in too traditional of a form.

What's wrong with traditional forms? Almost anything good -- in technical cinematic terms -- was invented by 1950. Jerky editing, hand held cameras, found footage -- all more recent forms and all nauseating.

But do you have a strong opinion? I assume the IMHO is 'understood'!

I don't understand why Mr Miniver has to be so critical of the way Truereview's comment. I also enjoyed watching Spotlight. It was an example of excellent storytelling, which I enjoyed watching. I think all the awards it won exemplifies that. I know he likes Revenant, which while cinematic, I found slow and boring. That's my opinion which I'm entitled to express here without being chastized by him for a choice of words. Geez, Mr Miniver, lighten up.

He's on my "ignore" list so I don't see his comments anymore. The best way to deal with people like him on this site is to use the "ignore" feature.
