I've been busy the last few days and haven't been paying much attention to the news. What the hell is this guy thinking? I wonder how he intends to pay for his attorney's fees when he loses the case?

You may not quite understand how the US tort system works. In most cases, tort lawyers are paid by contingency. This means that if the plaintiff wins, the plaintiff has to pay his law firm big $$, but if he loses, the plaintiff doesn't owe the lawyer anything. Also, in the US, the loser does not usually have to pay the legal expenses of the winner. So essentially, if he can find a lawyer willing to represent him, the plaintiff risks nothing financially when suing someone or some corporation. Obviously, this system is rife for what amounts to legal extortion. Even if he loses, the plaintiff can cause the defendant plenty in financial losses because the defendant will have to pay his legal team even if he wins.

I knew the plaintiff did not have to pay the defendant's fees should the plaintiff lose, but I was not aware that the plaintiff would not pay his attorney's fees. This should be interesting to watch.

I recall reading that this escort "Brodie Sinclair" is a big problem. I have seen his ads in locations like Dubai. This guy is only after the really big money. What he did to the Conde Nast executive is wrong - very wrong. I surely hope that Sinclair/Truitt loses big time and that somebody drops a house on him.

To David Geithner - we support you!

This Leif Derek Truitt's a nutbag. The lawyer representing him should be disbarred, tarred, and feathered.

Frankly, I did not know about this story until you posted this. By the looks of the escort, I can't imagine hiring him.

Not exactly my type, but not totally ugly either:

Although I'd rather hire the guy who was going to hire him:

You lawyers can correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that what a countersuit is for?

Well, in this case there could theoretically be a counter-suit because Truitt tried to extort money out of Geithner before divulging the information. However, since Truitt probably doesn't have a significant cache of money, there wouldn't be too much of a point in that, although the suit would ensure that if Truitt ever did come into money, that he wouldn't be able to keep it. So it might be a reasonable thing to do. Other steps Geithner's legal team could take might include filing a Motion for Summary Judgment, which quashes such merit-less cases before trial, although that would still have to happen after discovery (depositions, etc.). Judges in the US don't grant MSJ's as often as they should, though. They could also go after the scumbag lawyer who filed the case on the basis of Abuse of Process or Malicious Use of Process (filing a ridiculous claim whose purpose is to harass the defendant rather than to prevail at trial). I hope Geithner and his team make things as uncomfortable as possible for Truitt and his scumbag lawyer.

Earlier in my career, I was named in three malpractice suits in which there was clearly no responsibility on my part. In two of the three cases, I had no involvement whatsoever in the patients' care. In the third case, I saw a patient with a lump, I sent him to the surgeon, and the surgeon took out the lump. The pathologist read it as benign. As it turned out, it ended up being an unusual type of cancer that just looks a lot like a benign growth under the microscope. While the issue, if any, was clearly solely on the pathologist's shoulders, the surgeons and I were named in the suit, and it took years to get our names off of the suit. As it also turned out, that cancer had no known effective treatment (did not respond to surgery, or any known chemotherapy or radiation treatment), so even the pathologist's case was moot. If anything, the pathologist probably did the patient a favor by not diagnosing him with an incurable disease, given the patient that much more time of peace of mind. Even though my care was really not in question, I had to go through depositions, etc. I remember reading the deposition of the plaintiff, and our lawyer asked him "So have you ever talked with any doctor who stated that there is any effective treatment for your form of cancer?" and the plaintiff just said "No, but you'd think there would be...". The plaintiff never recovered anything.

Since then, I've been purchasing a special kind of insurance through a group called Medical Justice. It's not malpractice insurance, but they do go after plaintiffs and their attorneys when frivolous suits are filed. The legal system in the US too often doesn't hold people who file frivolous suits accountable (and, indeed, seems to encourage frivolous suits). If I get any more frivolous suits, at least I'll have ammunition for a counter-attack.

From the original link:

' Truitt also says Geithner had no reasonable expectation of privacy when he made contact with him and readily disclosed his contact information with him, and that never did Geithner "request that his sexuality be concealed or that his homosexuality be kept private."'

"No reasonable expectation of privacy." That in a nutshell is what gives many people pause when they think about hiring an escort. How can you know that a hire is not going to turn into a nightmare? You don't, and you can't. That is why this site is so important. There is always an element of danger in our little hobby, and the best way to avoid a Geithner-esque situation is to hire someone with a good reputation, particularly a well-known escort who himself has much to lose if it all goes wrong, knowing that this community may well be alerted.

Thank you HooBoy. Thank you Daddy. Thank you honest escorts who come out of the shadows and let yourselves be known.

No hijack intended or wanted here and it did happen a long time ago, so lets keep it to the topic and not try and move to any specific escort. My one and only trip down the attempted blackmail by an escort path happened by someone reviewed on daddy's and at least on jawjateck, so let's not lull ourselves into any sense of false security based on that criteria. If your privacy and anonymity are important to you, than be careful who you trust and what you disclose about yourself. That's the plain and simple truth.

Totally agree. We should expect fun & fantasy fulfillment from a companion, but any hobbyist who trusts a provider with confidential info is foolish. No matter how much you think you know about someone, you never know when he will succumb to greed, an onorous debt, or a bad habit, and try to take it out on you.

And don't expect discretion in this community. Plenty of chat among escorts and clients has circled around about me, my hires, my activities, preferences, travel, etc. Not a biggie with me, but some of y'all need to raise your security protocols.

If he is an Iraq war veteran, as he claims, he could be the poster child for the movement to increase mental health benefits for veterans.

its's tough to complain about the invasion of privacy when you're inviting the discussion :)
