Anyone else here a big fan of Downton Abbey? Season 6 starts in the US in January and I can hardly wait. So much so that I would love to know if anyone has a way for me to watch it on line now. I've tried some basic Google Searching but haven't gotten very far.

This is the last season and I will be truly sorry to see it end. The BBC makes some of the most remarkable shows of the highest quality, imho.

Luv DA. Eagerly awaiting new season but I honestly rather wait. If memory serves me right, and I may be wrong, if you made a $200 donation to PBS, you could get the entire series including season 6 - that dvd set would be delivered in January.

Huge fan of Downton Abbey and particularly Dame Maggie Smith who was recently interviewed by, I think, Charlie Rose---remarkable woman. And no I don't know of anyway to watch it now--be patient and savor the weekly presentations.

I've already seen Season 6 and it's wonderful as in the past....a little more 'soapy' than normal, but who cares...it's still wonderful. I'm so sad that it's now over, but nothing lasts forever...sigh.

I watched the whole thing over the course of last weekend. It was wonderful and the last 15 minutes had me in tears. There is still the Christmas special on Dec 25 and that will be it.

You can get it on any of the torrent sites and lots of private sites.

Try www.torrentz.eu and it will give you a list of sites that have it.

Cheers!

PBS butchers the show by editing the episodes. So what you're seeing in the US starts and stops at different points rather than following the 8 episode progression seen in the UK. PBS sucks.

Great to hear....very excited to see it.

Thanks for the link and I will check it out, although now I am wondering if I should just wait it out...only a couple months away. It has been a great weekly ritual and something nice to look forward to watch on cold winters Sunday night.

I won't ask if the tears were of sadness or joy, or perhaps both. I can hardly wait.

I didn't know that PBS did that...very interesting. I may try to get the DVDs as I assume that will be the original version.

And what about Doc Martin? Any fans of that as well? It seems like forever since the last time it was on but I have heard there will be one final season of that as well...just not sure when.

Just download the stuff for free. Why wait? You can still watch it week to week. At least PBS doesn't edit anything out (I'm assuming that actually) but they do format the episodes to fit their timeslot. It's worse with Inspector Lewis (another great long running Brit show that ended this past week) where they actually edit stuff out to fit their time slot. Often they remove key plot points and you can't remotely solve the mystery. 2015 and PBS is still doing this, shame on them. It's why I always download and watch the shows as they air on UK TV.

I believe the season premiere is tonight. I have set my DVR.

In the USA. In the real world -- that doesn't go by the PBS clock -- it has been over for a long time with the final special airing about 2 weeks ago. All wrapped up in a night, tidy little bow with happy endings for everyone!

Thank you Uncle Julian!

My mother watches DA on the BBC and then phones me with enticing tidbits. I didn't know that PBS edited the version shown here and find that really disheartening. At least we don't get the commercials. When I've watched the show in Europe with my mom, the commercials are very frequent and seemingly endless. We're spoiled by getting DA on non commercial t.v. here; in England, it is shown on ITV, which is the British commercial network and they are just as merciless with ads as any of the U.S. networks. I remember once watching Nigella Lawson on British t.v. and they broke for a commercial as she cracked an egg over a bowl and when the show returned, the yolk was at the bottom of the bowl.

I enjoy the sweet torture of waiting for my Sunday ritual, but I love hearing how folks are getting their DA needs met in different ways. Wow, this is oddly sounding like an escort thread ;)

Hate that I had to miss it last night, but my other option ( a date in the real world!) was worth the sacrifice ;) Can't wait to see the first episode tonight. Will miss the series when gone but glad it is going out while it is still popular (in my eyes)

actor61: I took MrMiniver comments to mean that the show was edited to fit the PBS time slot, not that anything was cut from the show.

Correct. I don't believe they cut anything out (unlike Inspector Lewis which they do cut out parts) but edit it to fit the their time slot. I still consider that butchery.

I have a PAL DVD player, so I've been ordering each season from Amazon UK before they even air here. Just waiting breathlessly for the Christmas episode to arrive. I'm seriously going to miss it.

You can just get an all region DVD player. Or watch it each week starting in September on ITV. Which is what I used to do. I'll miss it.

Don't tell me about what happens in the rest of the last season, please. I just want to let off a little steam. I have always hated what the writer's portrayal of did the Thomas character. The writers had an opportunity to introduce a gay character that was somehow affected by the generalized homophobia of the times without also making him mean, vindictive, and selfish. The writer could have allowed him to have some sort of relationship as the series progressed. These relationships did exist and in some cases were just overlooked if they remained "underground." Maybe this happens in the rest of Season 6 - I hope so. If you wanted to write broad characters, there was no reason that the writer could not have introduced two gay characters. One that did his job, was liked by some of the other servants, and eventually found a semblance of self-fulfillment and the other that is Thomas as he is written. As I said, I have not seen all of Season 6 so maybe that all comes to be.
