It is not only sad now for the amputee. But as young men have come back to a somewhat functional life. What is going to happen when they age and their remaining body can not compensate for the loss of part of there bodies.

They are two different holidays. Veterans Day (in November) is for remembrance of those who have served in the military. Memorial Day (today) is for remembrance of those who died doing so.
