One clarification from the OP (me!) lol........ What I meant by, "It is 1993 all over again," had to do with the RATES. The going rate in those days when Hotspots magazine and David magazine ruled the South Florida gay world was $100 as we advertised in the back in print as , "models," for $100 an hour. That was the top of the market except for a few porn stars. Those careers flamed out with A.I.D.S. and/ or cocaine. When I moved to San Antonio I advertised in the TWIT also in Houston and Dallas the rates were again $100. I branched out and discovered unzipped magazine at the same time I did my INCHES magazine and PLAYGIRL magazine shoots. I started getting overnights and people flew me around.. But even in the late 90s we were glad to get 300 for an overnight or 500 for a weekend. That was big money. That was almost what the few remaining pornstars were getting. That is when I retired................ then Rentboy was born and a revolution happened. When I got back in the biz in 2007 in NOLA after my sugar daddy went flat broke on me things had really changed. I started back in print cause I could not turn on a computer! I used Ambush magazine there with Rip and Marsha in the French Quarter. I took computer classes....got online and discovered Craigslist erotic services. My rate jumped to 150.....then I found Rentboy, M4Rn and eventually rentmen and the rate rose to 200. People did not bat an eye. Actually most were shocked it was so LOW. Even thenas I moved back to FLorida and aged I found a ready and very eager and willing market at 200 with 1,000 $ overnights aplenty. Only now (post RB) in 2015 have we reverted to 1993 rates. a select few (Killian it seems) are bucking this trend and I am very happy for the few like him! Congrats! But here in the REAL world where most of us hard working men dwell it is 1993. Yes the internet is here so the dynamics are different but the rates are regressing to 1993 levels. thst is undeniable. Now the question is : do we work for 100 an hour? I do not. I am well ahead financially and I escort for the fun of it out of a position of power. I post this because I feel bad for the 20 somethings..........................

I'm not convinced it is "undeniable"...I think there have always been a quality market and low quality market. I haven't seen the rates change at all.... and I am in my 20s... and not Killian.

A quick check of Washington DC ads on RentMen revealed the following statistics:

  • Total ads: 72
  • Ads without a price: 10
  • Net ads: 62
  • Ads with a price less than $200: 11
  • Ads with a price greater than $200: 51
  • Percentage of escorts who list a price that charge more than $200: 82.2%

This does not sound like 1993 all over again.

As a newbie to hiring but an old timer in the tech field...

Technology disrupts, always. It breaks down the old and brings in the new, whatever the new might be; but that change is bought about by the people using that technology and there needs to be a critical mass of users, a tipping point that brings a change of attitudes. Rentboy was the confluence of technology and hubris, and so you got something less than disruption and more like simple ignorance. There was no critical mass of users; the laws remained the same and the attitudes toward sex work remained the same. It was irrational exuberance. But, while Rentboy is gone, the technology remains, the demand for sex workers remains, and America's liberalizing views on sex (fueled by the younger demographic) continues. The long term view for the industry is good, I think, but the next few years will be bumpy.

Absolutely! The millennials, like Lady Randolph Churchill, don't care who you fuck, or whether you pay for it or not, as long as "you don't do it in the streets and frighten the horses." I'm telling you I have seen the most amazing and rapid changes toward liberal social mores in my lifetime. I know it doesn't help those who are suffering restrictions now, but this too shall pass...IF we keep on pushing. The fat, old white folks cannot stop it. I know because I was part of the movement in the 60s. (And proudly got arrested twice) Counter culture fuses with mainstream culture on a daily basis. It is a constant process that cannot be stopped. Work with young people, and listen to them. They will carry us forward

March, Write, Speak, Vote

Legalize the sex industry now. . Or at least soon.

Interesting how the participants in the movement are now the fat, old white folks.

Truth is, there are always going to be the guys who charge way less than what many of us here on the boards charge. I saw it when I was a wee lil hooker in the early 2000s and still see it today. The way I see it is it makes me want to try to up my game and strive to be the best provider I can be. They will eventually realize they can charge more and work not as hard or they'll drop out of the game. Thats just my thoughts.

Hugs,

Greg

Yes, many of us were participants, or pretended to be until the "movement" moved past us. Some of us from the movement have kept the faith ( to borrow a phrase) and continued to dedicate our lives to love, peace and freedom as teachers, doctors and nurses, lawyers, politicians, etc.. for the last 40 years. Either way, the majority of us are over weight, elderly and Caucasian. I am proud of what we accomplished, but my point is we will soon be gone from the scene, and it is up to the next generation to influence social mores. Society is dynamic, not static. Get involved or remain silent and accept what you get.

There is a market available for everyone. The $100 guys, the $150-$250 guys and the $300 an hour an up guys. The problems begin when people try to force everyone artificially into the same market through methods like guilt, coercion, shaming, lying, sockpuppeting.

Just remember, a few key points. Price does not equal quality and rarely does it offer a good indication of it. As a client, stay in the range you feel comfortable with and don't let anyone convince you to do otherwise. As a service provider, offer your service at the price you feel good about doing it not what other service providers put in their ads or know-it-all clients think you should price your services at. Just because you see a price advertised on someone's escort ad or talked about on an anonymous message board, that does not make it the price they are actually getting. But yes, some of the top escorts, do make the big prices they are asking for, have clients booked out far into the future, and do have their phones ring off the hook.

I am NOT speaking of published / advertised rates .....but of the actual rate the clients are paying and the providers are willing to accept. Escorting right now is more like buying or selling a car as there is a lot of haggling and negociation. It used to be like dining at a fine restaurant where the diner would NEVER ask the chef to lower the price. And WITH ALL DUE RESPECT to the poster who again tried to use my age as the reason for my no longer commanding top dollar that is simply not true. This thread is not about me. I posted it on behalf of the many younger escorts who ask me for advice but who are unwilling to post on Daddys because of the meaness, hostility and bickering on here. I have my clients. I still get top dollar and I do not go down on price. I don't need to. But a lot of these young men can't pay their rent right now!!!!!!!! That being said I do get offers EVERY DAY at $100 which I politely turn down. I tell them nicely: "That was the rate in 1993." That is the point of my thread.

I guess they can either take more clients at lower prices (I have noticed a lot of people in DC expect cheaper rates, maybe there is a lot of discount competition) or they can listen to Nancy Reagan...that seems to work for me.

Duh! I always sucked at math, but even I know 200 is less than 1993. :D

I pay a lot less now than I did in 1993, but I hire a whole lot more often.

Seriously? If so, you are confirming the OP's point, contrary to the numbers rvwnsd just posted, which sound like what I would have guessed. If you do pay less than 1993 but hire more and don't mind sharing, I'd be curious to hear how those numbers work.
